Your Best Drum(mer) Memorabilia

I've got a signed bass drum head box from JR. He was stood behind me at the remo stand at a drum show and it was the only thing I'd got that he could sign. My wife nearly threw it in the recycling the other day! Had to explain who it was and she really couldn't have been less interested.

Other than that I've got some hats that apparently belong to Mick Tucker from The Sweet and I've got a snare that belonged to Dan from Neds Atomic Dustbin if anyone remembers the early 90s

The only real pieces of drumming memorabilia I have are from the same day. I went to Donn Bennet's in Bellevue to attend a Peter Erskine clinic. I just so happened to be sitting next to Garey Williams (rest his soul). They did a few giveaways and Garey won a Zildjian swag bag with a floor tom towel, a drummer's repair kit and a ball cap. He was a Sabian artist at the time, so he just turned to me, grinned, and said, "you're a Zildjian guy, aren't you, Al?" Still have the hat; someone swiped the towel off my floor tom a few years ago.

And of course, that was the day this picture also got made.

I have an autographed copy of Accents and Rebounds. It was signed by Stone and given to Joe Morello. Actually, he gave Joe a handful (6-7 copies). The first copy was Joe's personal copy. I think they are trying to find a place for it (and the accompanying letter) in a museum or collection. The other copies were for Joe to hand out as he wanted. I guess Joe never got around to giving most or all of them out. I bought a copy when they were auctioning his estate items a few years ago. The pics are from the auction, so I only own the autographed book, not the letter.

For how cool it is to own a piece of drum history, it does not compare with the experience of studying with Joe. It was amazing studying with him.

That is really something special !!

Back when I was a 10-year old roadie for the Beatles, I got a card signed before I had to go back to school. George was still in the studio, working on a tune.

Actually, a friend of my mother was a Pan Am flight stewardess and was having a day off near Abbey Road. She spied these three in a restaurant having tea and scones, so she went to a nearby shop to get the card, got these three guys to sign it, and gave it to me as a gift.

Yes, I agree. I checked the past auctions and saw that Joe’s ”Matthew” necklace was also an auctioned item. That was a piece of drum history. For those that don’t know, he had a dog necklace that he wore all the time. It was in many photos taken of Joe. He would tell a story about Matthew (his guide dog) and then touch the necklace. I wish I knew who had it. I hope it’s in good hands.

I got a single drumstick from Art Blakey that Mr. Blakey accidentally dropped at a festival gig.
When I went to give it back to him after the show (I had to yell quite a bit; he was already hard of hearing), he came to the edge of the stage and asked me: " You're a drummer?" and when I said yes, he said: "Keep it!
I kept that single stick in my stick bag at every gig for years.
Of course, I never played it.

I have sticks autographed by Phillip "Fish" Fisher of Fishbone (my most prized) and Will Calhoun, and a head autographed by Kenny Aronoff.

I've got a prototype Ghost pedal, missing some parts.
A Ludwig snare batter with Bill 3's autograph. He was signing books at a ForumFest in Indy, took a smoke break outside and told me a really cool story about getting plastered with Rick Allen, after his accident, and encouraging Rick to keep playing.
I had an old clamp-on kick muffler with a Rogers logo that Harry Cangany told me 'shouldn't exist' as Rogers had not made one. I passed it on to a drummer who played all Rogers stuff.

Nice on the Lars Regal Tip sticks. I still have two pair that i've used for playing, but I also have two pairs that are still in the plastic bag completely sealed form when i bought them back in the early to mid 90's.

I also have a pair of Virgil Donati's used sticks Signed by him. I also have a Pic with Dave Weckl and he signed my ticket stub from when I saw him with Oz Noy.

Non-Drummer related. Have two Metallica guitar pics from two different Cities when I saw them on the Hardwire to Self-Destruct tour. Maryland and Arizona.

I have an original pair of Matt Sorum Ahead sticks (store bought nothing fancy) but it's from when Ahead was owned/made by Easton (the metal baseball bat company)

Not entirely drumming related, but one of my favourite items is just about all of Bill Haley and The Comets autographs. They remain the first band to get me interested in music and ultimately onto drumming.

The majority of the band (minus Bill who of course passed away a long time ago) reunited and played a venue here in the UK sometime in the 00s.D2026907-22F0-4F55-AB17-58224590200A.jpeg

that is your retirement right there...

I have mostly autographs (on heads or albums)...Max Roach, Elvin, Neil, (Geddy, Alex) , Alan White, Virgil Donati, Chad Smith, Dave Weckl, Albert Bouchard, Nicko McBrain, Mark Zonder, a ton of drum corps guys in the DCI Hall of Fame

Caught and saved a drumstick that flew out of Floyd Sneed's (RIP) hand at a Three Dog Night concert in Halifax, N.S. in the early 1980's. They were pretty much my favourite band when I was in Junior School in the late 1960's (at least until their "Joy To The World" era). Always kind of boggled my mind that Hoyt Axton wrote that tune AND "The Pusher".
