The 31st of March 2008 sees the release by Liberation Entertainment of two great performances by drummer and singer extraordinaire, Buddy Miles, who sadly passed away on Tuesday the 26th of February 2008 at the age of 60.
His name is normally associated with close friend and associate Jimi Hendrix with whom he played in the post-Experience group The Band of Gypsys. However, the former child prodigy who started out in his father's band The Bebops was an amazing musician in his own right with a unique appearance to match, as demonstrated in these two memorable live concerts. The first concert was filmed at the New Morning Rock Heroes Festival in 1995 and sees Buddy perform a selection of 60’s and 70’s rock and pop classics, culminating in powerful versions of Hendrix’s Purple Haze, Voodoo Child and Hey Joe. The second concert, in Paris a year later, includes renditions of the Impressions’ hit For Your Precious Love and Albert King’s Born Under A Bad Sign.
Buddy Miles will surely go down in history as one of the greatest drummers who ever lived. He never achieved the mainstream recognition of many of his contemporaries and collaborators, however amongst those who take their music seriously, Buddy Miles will be remembered as a true legend.
