Mike Mangini

New album of DT is pure joy. Those guys are just superb players on so many levels. I am far from DT fan but that sounds really good. Drums for example on Barstool Warrior are so great that its ridiculous. I don't think Portnoy was ever close to that level of finesse and great ideas. Great job Mike and Petrucci is a monster player also.
 
He has always looked like he is doing the hair thing because he is supposed to do the hair thing.

But I suppose once you have a head of moss like that it is a giant leap of faith to take it all off.........
 
I haven’t been a huge fan of the band in a long time, principally due to Mike Portnoy’s departure. To my mind, he was the driving force of the band and when he left so did their spark.

This is no ways an indictment of Mangini who is a brilliant musician (hair and all!)
 
I cut my hippie long hair when the rednecks started adopting it. The same SOBs who would call me a girl and grab my pony tail threatening to cut it off with their pocket knife (none never did) now growing long hair was just to much.. ROFL

Bo...THANK YOU for this post. I agree and have talked about this for years. He has the worst long hair and looks terrible with it as such. He should just go back to his shorter, tight haircut, at least he looked better then,
 
I thought he grew it out ‘cuz it was part of the band’s look.

I’m sure he looks more like the band this way, and I’m not denigrating his playing or the band - anybody who can make a career out of anything in music deserves praise. I just think he looks out of place with long hair - I liked his short hair look much better back when he was a respected educator (which seems another ironic thing to be when you become Mr. Rock n Roll rebellion).

Has anybody noticed how both Mike Mangini and Shannon Forrest both sport long hair now? Before they joined their respective bands, they both had shorter hair. So is long hair a requirement to play rock n roll? I wonder if they were told to grow their hair out so they could market a more...

It is an obsession. Maybe because I can’t have long hair.

Mangini's look is a little played (again as if any of us should comment) but......James (lead singer) and the long hair and thinning in the front would be not just the canary in the coal mine for me to got high and tight but the friggin' giant hawk screaming in the coal mine for me.........
 
The long hair envy thread. I loved long hair back in my day but shorter was cooler and less care. I have a rounder face with longer hair and shorter also makes me look thinner and younger. I still get the urge to grow it out again ever so often.

There was a time he had long hair too. When he first joined up with the Dixie dregs, he had long hair and no beard. And now he looks like Scott Ian’s dad.
