PAS Drumset Magazine

I just ordered a copy. Thanks for letting us know about it.

Just saw one in person at a 'new' shop in L.A.* and brought it home. Excellent content, some names and info that's new to me. Will be interesting to see the direction of future issues. It's a quarterly magazine, so the next issue should be out shortly.

* New-ish shop is California Drums in Monrovia (a little east of Pasadena) and is kind of what remains of Lone Star Percussion's old shop. Small but good vibe there, and an ice cream shop next door! :)

Cool! I saw it in person at Columbus Pro Percussion back in December. I was so busy scarfing up my gear haul that I forgot to grab a copy, lol. ;)

Who's the girl on the front cover?

Interesting... "She's become enormously famous thanks to her Instagram account" and has an "army." Plus I learned her Zodiac sign!
I would have expected more folks on here to be familiar with her. I did a thread search and not much came up. Here's a sample of one of her videos:

I bought the first issue and thought it was meh. I realize it's the first, but still. They should have gone for a bigger name on the cover. I never heard of that girl, and there was nothing in the article that made me want to check her out at all. Sorry.

When MD first appeared around '78, they had Buddy on the first issue cover.

I received my copy of Drumset magazine yesterday (issue # 0). I like it, a lot. Editorially, it's very well put together (Mike Dawson is a great editor and writer) and it's wonderful to have it be based in paper form. I'm not a luddite by any means - I have my head pointed at computer screens all day and welcome the chance to have an "Analog" break (I still read books in the paper form for that reason, too).

This could be just a sign of the times. Back in 1975(?) everybody knew the same people because we only had records, radio, and tv with maybe 9 major channels. Today, people can have millions of followers on the internet yet there are millions more who don’t know them at all because it’s the internet - we all get to choose what we pay attention to now, I guess. (Which is probably why I’m not big on internet “stars” either - I’m still a traditionalist when it comes to big artists)

1975...that's roughly the number of articles I've read on Buddy Rich. If this new magazine had a picture of Buddy, or Ringo, or Gadd, or Weckl, or even Peart on the cover, I would have have have passed it by. I love all of those guys, but there's not much more that can be said about them.

I have a theory about the choice for the cover. When Apple computers was struggling in the 90's and was trying to get back on its feet after being written off as another fading star, the marketing people at Apple came up with this brilliant tag line - "Think Different". So, I am guessing that they really wanted to differentiate themselves from the previous paper prints and they put someone on the cover that many do not expect to see.

After reading this thread I am also intrigued. I will check the local music stores and see if I can find a copy to buy.

I had heard enough about her to know that Pocket Queen is kinda a deal. When I saw the cover, I was like, "Cool, I know who she is."

Vater makes her siggie sticks in gold. Seems to fit her overall mojo.

Great! Also don´t forget that PAS has "Percusive Notes" (Before "Percussion News") the official journal of the Percussive Arts Society for it´s members, a kind of "newspaper"/magazine. This is a fragment from the issue from November 1997 Specially for USA (but not only) comes with all sort of activities in Universities, dates of tours of well known drummers, a few articles on percussion and drum set, etc. some information that is not so easy to find all together.
