I chose the Foo's simply because I wouldn't have chosen any of them. EVERYONE picks Ringo & the Beatles, but for this 53 year old guy, he was already past my influence when I started drumming in 1981.
Stan Lynch of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Neil Peart of Rush & Pat Torpey of Mr. Big were huge for me.

there's a lesson there too; but it wasn't all Hal.
but it was some serious studio hitters from Jerry Carrigan to Benny Benjamin to Howard Grimes to...

My personal “Mt Rushmore” of drummers would probably be Neil Peart, John Bonham, Alex VH, and Bill Ward.

But….it’s always funny to read about who were the drummers that influenced these guys. John Bonham would come up with his trademark kick patterns and he would credit Carmen Appice for the technique….and Carmen would tell Bonham “John…I have no idea what you are talking about….i don’t play anything like that…it’s all you.” 😂

My point oh two... the poll asks which if the to learn drums from. I presume from that question, its learning how to play drums, not learning to further your existing drumming skills.

If you need to start from the beginning, it would be my opinion that a new drummer would be exposed to so many more different styles of music when listening to The Beatles than the other three in the poll. If the prospective new drummer is only interested in playing heavier rock and nothing else, than you could choose whichever of the three suits you. But to learn music, and playing drums in general, it has to be The Beatles, out of those four.

maiden or 'tallica for me!

"Uhhhh......well....erm....I'm with you fellas."

I get why The Beatles gets the most votes but as a teenager, the drumming on "The Color and the Shape" had a bigger influence on me at the time.

The decision made here was just looking backwards at the material and considering the drummer's style and how it appeals to me. I didn't grow up drumming to any of them. I started in 1990.

When I first wanted to learn to play the drums as a kid, it would have been Nicko.
When I actually bought my first kit, it would have been Taylor from FF.
If I actually had a chance to take a lesson now, it would be Ringo.

I'd have to leave Lars out to dry on this one. I need to learn from a drummer who uses a ride cymbal.

There is no comparison of the groove/feel of Ringo to the (incredibly powerful) drumming of the other 3 selections, all of which I also love. Totally different genres IMHO between ringo and the other metal drummers..

Ringo by a smile.

Dave Grohl all day all night.

Not dissing Ringo......but I just don't see what he could " teach" you? He was a very unique player because he was a lefty playing right but what he has IMHO can't be taught.

Dave on the other hand could teach you drum styles, production, how to record as well as guitar......you would leave his direction a better muscian.

Already learned by listening to Lars so it's too late for me!

I had already been playing for about 10 years (Rush, VH, AC/DC, Maiden, Zep, Police, etc) before I first heard Metallica around '87. So I didn't actually learn to play from Lars.
I would best describe Lars and Metallica's influence on me as a game changer.

I chose Ringo by default. I can't name a single song recorded by any of the other three, though I'm probably familiar with a few. Could I exchange Ringo for Lee Kerslake?

"Uh...could I exchange my Foo for some Wang Chung."
"No exchanges and NO returns.......do you want to be placed in the iron maiden?.....well then..Off with you."

same...but got into Metallica in 84....also a game changer for me in what speed and underground metal could be. I heard Ride right when it first came out on a mix tape that my freinds brother had, and pretty much never used radio again to discover music

by that time, I had already been influenced by Maiden, Rush, VH, Motown stuff and cool bop jazz
