Gretsch Catalina Maple: Opinions?

Drum Flip are good guys. I have purchased from them. Good place to buy drums.

I’ve got a buddy that has Cat maple and Cat birch. He has gigged them for years. Never have heard him complain. When I’ve seen him play, they sound fine.

He bought them so he could keep the vintage Ludwigs at home.
 
Me again sounding like a cracked record. I've had two Catalina Club kits, so not the maple, a 20, 12, 14 and currently a 22, 12, 16.
No I don't like the 18" bass drum depth of my current kit, yes the hardware isn't as well made as many others. However, that hardware isn't going to break unless it's abused and the only times my drum sound has been complimented since I started gigging in pubs 17 years ago has been when I've played those kits.
