Even famous drummers schlep their own gear... (Dave Brubeck Quartet)

legend has it that Shelley Manne dropped his endorsement with Sonor because his rosewood Phonic bop was too heavy for him to haul around

So is it only the drummer who “schleps”? Or should we consider Paul Desmond and Norman Bates (I think that’s his name) to also be “schlepping”?

The Dave Brubeck Quartet with the great Joe Morello on drums.
I see. Of all the pics, the only person I recognize is Phil Collins 1978.

The bass player's name was Eugene Wright.

Norman Bates was the psycho murderer in Psycho.

You’re right. But at one time they had a bass player named Norman Bates. I heard Joe tell the story at ProDrum years ago because the movie Psycho just came out then and their bass player had the same name. Maybe it made him crazy too 😂
