Just purchased my first "practice kit" (in addition to a gigging kit).

I feel uncomfortably extravagant right now! I just purchased a "mint" condition Tama Superstar Classic 5-piece in 20, 10, 12, 14, 14s for 20% of retail price, and also a Tama Stage Master hardware pack for 25% off. These will be my practice gear and stay in my bonus room while the SCMs stay in their comfy bags. They are also a slightly smaller configuration than my SCMs so I could use them for small stages perhaps. I figure since my little cover band does 25-30 shows a year, this purchase will pay for itself in time saved in about six months. I never thought about having two separate kits to save time until reading about it here, and didn't really consider I'd get to the point where it made sense for me. And maybe I'm not at that point and am just GASSING, but I think I actually am at that point.

Tell me I did the right thing! My kids will go hungry and barefoot for awhile, but it's worth it right? J/k, fortunately I can handle this purchase (but not many such purchases). I will probably be kicking myself for my spendthrift ways until it arrives, but then all my cares will disappear when I take it out of the box.

I can write it off somehow on my taxes right?

For those keeping track, when it arrives I will have three full kits in my house (I am rehabbing a friend's old Pearl Export nightmare of a kit). Good thing I'm not married (and probably won't be if I keep this up).

Well congrats !!!! As long as you can convince yourself the kids need to lose some weight, you should be fine. Going barefoot will toughen up their feet. Character building

Nice choice of kit. I really don't think having 2 (or 3) kits is really extravagant. I personally believe that a man can never own too many drums, knives, or firearms:LOL:

Please post pictures when they arrive.(y)

I have a 88 model 4pc setup at home with stands and dbl pedal that never leave the house. My gig kit stays packed up ready to load. Most of my cymbals go to gigs and home but there's always a few cymbals at home.

Well done, Sir. Barefoot and hungry children are a small price to pay for a solid practice kit. :)

When I first started playing and gigging absolutely everywhere, I dreamed of the day where I could have two kits. I practiced all of the time, but it took many years for me to grow wearing of setting up and tearing down all of the time.

Having kits at rehearsal spaces in addition to a "go kit" is truly a luxury I thoroughly enjoy and appreciate.
