piggybacking off of the other thread, what do you think fits this bill?

for me, a short list would be:

Peace Sells... - Megadeth
Magic Power - Triumph
Back In The Saddle - Aerosmith
Dust In The Wind - Kansas
King Of Pain - The Police

Symphony of Destruction is the only Megadeth song to reach the Billboard Hot 100 (71).

Every Breath You Take is the only Police song to reach #1. King of Pain hit #3.

Aerosmith's only #1 is "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." "Back in the Saddle" topped out at #38.

Son of Vistalite Black is not usually one to pick nits, but couldn't resist.

Far too subjective unless we're talking one hit wonders

Synchronicity 2
Once in a Lifetime
Surrender (cheap trick)
Bullet the Blue Sky
Hair of the Dog
Sweet Home Alabama
Head over Heels (tears for fears)
Hammer Smashed Face (cannibal corpse)
Most Rush, Pink Floyd, and M. Jackson "hits"

Learning To fly- Foo fighters

Go Your Own Way- Fleetwood Mac
Hotel California- Eagles
Roundabout - Yes
More Than A Feeling- Boston

I could easily name 20 more.

Can't go wrong with any of Boston's best known songs. Fleetwood Mac too.

but you have to admit that - at least from people of my era (because I don't know how old SOVLB is), no one thinks of Symphony of Destruction as a hit...but definitely thinks that Peace Sells is THE song that defines Megadeth

AND

the title of the thread was not "#1 hit"

I don't think I have ever heard "I Don't Miss A Thing", but I also normally try to avoid Aerosmith at all costs

but I do have to allow you your space to pick nits!!!

"99 Luft Balloons"
by,,, I'd have to look it up.

I'm afraid I have to agree with SoVB mate. Technically Symphony is "the hit" (since Countdown to Extinction is there highest charting album) but Peace Sells is obviously the better song.

Both are featured in the live set so we can't even split hairs over that :)

Tempted by Squeeze.

As mentioned, Hotel California by the band that the Big Lebowski hates.

Sorry but the best Squeeze song is Another Nail In My Heart or Is That Love. Depends on my mood ;)

Edit I'm awake now, lol. I think. I gotta go with Tempted as it fits the criteria.
