And this one you can see my head!

After I replaced the hoops on my kit with wood hoops, I did a stream-of-consciousness groove demo. I recorded this with my iPhone and a Shure MOTIV MV88 stereo mic, and it doesn't sound half-bad! Try headphones for more low end. My chops suck so grooving is my forte. Let me know what you think!

Sound great for an iPhone attachment. Is there a way to turn off "auto level" on the phone?

Also, 6 minutes and only one decent drum face. Kinda disappointing. ?

Beautiful hoops. I love the warm cross-sticking click wood hoops deliver. ( I do a lot of cross-sticking in country music.) My current kit doesn't have wood hoops, but I might go that route down the line. For me, the only drawback to wood hoops is that the snare drum, in particular, looses some sensitivity when you venture toward the edges of the drumhead. All wood hoops have different personalities, though.

Do you happen to have another recording with the same mic setup in the same room with the original die cast hoops?

To me, the toms sound more open (less focused fundamental) with the wood hoops. Not bad or worse by any means, just different.

Admittedly I made the mistake of first listening to this while also watching so it may just be a case of vision influencing hearing perception.

All aboard the Groovy Boat!??

My gosh! I can't believe that a drummer has finally posted a video with a head shot - and wearing a smile!!!!!!

Bo, you've broken every drum-video convention in the book, and I love it.

Sorry, no. But I’ve done different videos with the same kit before wood hoops, but with different recording gear, so it’s not an A-B comparison.

I will admit the toms probably sound more open because I did tune them up a bit from where they were, when I get new heads I’ll give them a good tuning.

Sorry ?

When I use the Shure MOTIV video app, I’m pretty sure I turned off the auto level because I had to adjust the input volume. I could be auto-leveling on my own, though ?

No problem, thanks. I remember your other videos and thought you had recorded them with different gear.

Good point about the higher tuning.
