Drummers gig carts Recommendations ?

I'm going to visit the Sweetwater mothership this coming week... checking out the Rock n Roller cart is on my list.

I’ve been using my Rock n Roller R12 since 1996! I’m considering an upgrade to that big cart made by Gator that has the pneumatic tires both front and back (having to roll through gravel and dirt at a local winery taught me this lesson just recently).

Would the smallest R2 model get the job done?

I have an R2RT. I mostly use it for full 4pc kits with 20/12/14/14 and 22/13/16/14 stacked up. It’s one trip with everything on the cart with careful packing and a kayak ratchet strap

That being said, the tiny wheels only favor smooth surfaces so I have an R12Stealth on the way.

Bearded Drums can fit his compact kit on the R2 in one trip. I don't think a full-sized 4-piece kit would fit though.

Most of you went for the larger models. (R8, R10, R12) Spending $240-$330 on a cart seems a little crazy, but maybe it's worth it in the long run.

I dunno, would the R2 or R6 get the job done?

@BobC, wow, the price has really skyrocketed.
It depends on the sheer amount of gear you have to load onto it. I can get almost everything on my R12, except for the large hardware bag. I use a four piece set.

I know the prices have gone up, but in the long run, you may regret buying the smaller one. It's your call, but I'd think it over.

I should mention, they now have a Model 16 at $506.45 and a Model 18 at $617.25 that are larger than the R12.

You sure about that price?

I'm looking at getting one with bigger wheels. I think the R12RT is the one for me. Every now and then we play rodeo's and lakes and the like. And it's not pavement or smooth flooring.

Thanks for posting that. $617 price is MSRP. I'd buy the R18 if I had to get another one, but the R12 is still holding up.
Mine too. I’ve had it since 1996! That was when they were grey with red handles! They look so cool today.

Btw they are called Krane AMG now, and changed from black/orange to black/red.

Indeed the AMG of carts.

I bought that Gator version of this, and it's not been terribly durable. The frame and stuff is fine, but the push-button thing that you have to push to get it to collapse broke, and the wing screws and springs are a rusty mess. I don't keep anything where it's damp. I'm wondering if they just used really cheap parts or something. Oh well. I guess I could try to replace them with parts from Lowe's or something. It still works, but I have to be careful when using it.

Here’s an R2RT loaded with a Staclassic Maple 20/12/14/14, cymbals, hardware, mics, rubber-backed carpet, throne, and the most important piece of gear, my #1 fan. I carry a rifle bag with a set of DW Ultralight hardware, but only so I don’t have to break it down everyday. It fits in that suitcase if I need it to.

It works well on paved surfaces, but I’m very much looking forward to the R12 Stealth on its way.
