What's a good song to practice on drums for crazy time sigs and still has a "busy" drum beat

vague question? I know, let me explain. I need a song that has a strange time signature that I can still exercise difficult technical ability (such as advanced fill and intricate drum patterns), and also pretty progressively changing. Essentially a cross between drumming along to Rush track, and a King Crimson or Canvas Solaris track.

Any suggestions?
Preferably not metal, can't quite get into that sort of drumming.

Take Five (by The Dave Brubeck Quartet) performed by George Benson...not prog, but funk jazz in 5/8, with great 32nd groups of three on the snare and ride, this song is a workout at times, but man, it elevates you to another place while you play along with your headphones on.

this one's a mars volta tune: inartistic esp, mostly 3/4 waltz, but the bridge is in 7/8 half time with the snare accents on counts 5 and 1, i believe (the individual counts are struck on the hi hat in that section, so count along with the hats!!)

One of my favourites is Bill Bruford's rendition of Genesis' Cinema Show, from their Seconds Out album.

THE man for odd time signatures was Joe Morello. He was a specialist in far out grooves that nobody else could play.

Everything with Mars Volta from the Thomas Pridgen era especially is intricate and odd timish. Cotopaxi is a personal favourite.

"keep it greasy" (on the album "joe's garage", the live versions are usually played differently) by zappa. 4/4 double time chorus into 19/16 verses....but it's sooooo groovin' for being an absurd time sig!! drummerworld actually has a sample of the song and the isolated drum part...pretty handy! here's the link: http://www.drummerworld.com/Drumclinic/vinniecolaiutagreasy.html

Any Pridgen-era Mars Volta song, most Dream Theater, some Tool (The Pot, Lateralus), Joe Morello stuff (btw Joe Morello played Take Five, not the other guy), Elvin Jones's more polyrhythmic stuff, and Opeth's Heritage and Damnation albums, both are superb.

Tool's "Schism" is another song that is commonly mentioned...

Anything by Animals As Leaders. Kinda heavy but no vocals.

Drumming along to a drum machine? that's too degrading sorry bro.

Not if youre not FULL of pride. And trying to keep well with that particular drum machine is actually really hard. Also, on the new album Navene Koperweis is playing, he's a great player. Check out the single "Wave of Babies".

Good luck

They used a drum machine in the first album, before they picked up Navene.

Oh, okay. He can still play pretty much everything from the first album though.
