What do you use for practice on holiday?

So I just got this:

So far I've tried a couple of simple tunes on it, (She Sell Sanctuary & Miss You, both the cut down Trinity versions), and I'm definitely not ready to go live with it just yet 🤣
But it's meant to be just something small & v portable so I can try to practice some tunes while away from home for a few weeks (e.g. on a boat so no way to get to a practice room or any chance of anything like an actual drum kit). I've previously practiced tunes by counting them out as I go for a walk or I've done basic stuff on books or pillows but for trying to practice tunes I thought that something like this would be worth a shot. It's much harder to play than a proper kit but it's so bad it's kind-a good & it's a bit of fun. What do you use to practice whole tunes while unable to get to a kit?

Oh yes, and you can play tunes from your mobile (or whatever so Moises for me) and you can record them. I don't think I'm quite ready to record a tune on it just yet 🤣

I have learned literally entire band's albums when joining new projects on just a practice pad and tapping my feet so if I was away from home and really felt the need to practice I would probably just do that. However, these days, if I'm away from home for an extended period of time and the music bug bites me I would rather just use that time to program midi beats on my computer.

Me neither.

Vacation is a good time for listening though

I try to remember all the practice that my girlfriend tolerates when it impinges on our time together...... sometimes it just does.

She is gracious and understanding about it.

Vacation time is when it's about her.....I make that happen.

She makes me feel special when I'm practicing.

No practice when I'm on vacation.

She is my hero.

Holiday and Vacation are different from 'travel' or work travel. Yes, vacation and holiday, especially with a significant other, is probably better if you're not trying to practice.
If I'm traveling for work, which implies some down time alone and bored at the hotel, I have brought a practice pad and sticks. Definitely not too late, since I don't want to be 'that guy' who's pissing off everyone. Even 10-15 minutes is helpful.
I bought these silicone pad drumstick tips at the suggestion of someone one this forum: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YJFXJ8J
and they seem to work okay for rudiments and practice on a dresser or something.
My biggest concern with the setup you have would be messing up your muscle memory by having different sounds in the 'wrong' places.
Don't forget the sunscreen!

I keep a practice pad in the RV, just for peace of mind, but can't remember ever using it. The Remo Silent Stroke one has a 6mm mount that fits camera tripods.

sticks and my knee...but I do have one of those Meinl knee practice pads and sticks in my backpack all the time

and on vacation (holiday), I am the guy sitting by the campfire with my Vic Firth slim pad and sticks...and sometimes a s'more or 2 also on the pad

in fact, in this pick, I was as close to heaven as I could get....sitting knee/butt deep (when the waves were coming in) in a Great Lake looking off to the horizon, chopping away. Everyone else was at the pool, or sleeping, or doing whatever. It was just me, cool water, the sounds, sights and smells of nature, and probably some Stone Stick pattern or drum corps warm up going on

the only way this could have been better is if the water was ice, and there was snow everywhere

Wow, that is fantastic

I get what you're all saying about holiday time with your other half being special. Having said that, there's ALWAYS a time when I'm waiting for other people & I also tend to get up sooner so there's always a time when I can practice without impinging on the holiday & I try to make sure that it's not just me that perceives it that way.

I usually take my ‘Real Feel’ pad in my suitcase.

Usually the 4 hours (well, it feels like it) it takes the other half to get ready for an evening meal is enough time to grab a beer and stretch out on the pad

That looks idyllic mate! I used to smuggle sticks in my bag and play on my knee, but have been good and left them at home for our last holiday! :ROFLMAO: (y)

Take them next time, Al!

Me taking them means I don’t get cranky waiting for her to get ready, if anything I wish she’d take longer 😂

Everyone’s a winner

What's a holiday?

When I travel without the actual instrument I'll bring whatever pieces feel appropriate from my completely modular practice kit.

If I want to go really small I have a P4 pad, 2 Futz pedal and a DW practice pedal, but they very rarely get used.

A 7" Moongel with Evans pad stand is the smallest I'll go and that can hold another type on top just fine. I did break one of them by lifting it from just the pad, so I've learned my lesson and make sure I get my fingers underneath the plate on the stand. Having a loose Moongel "pillow" is handy anyway, so it's not that big of a deal. I think i have 8 Moongel pads at this point.
