Today: Paul Bostaph.

Bostaph learned that a slight swap in his kit configuration has also given him a chance to re-work his playing. "It's much more comfortable," he insists. "And only having two rack toms forces me to go down to the floor toms faster, so I use them more. I wanted to incorporate the floor toms more into my style anyway, so this has worked out great."

Nice drummer to read about. I knew of him but not that much. I now read 2 profiles a day because of you iwilliams.

I have heard The Killers music before and I do like it though I don't own any albums. It appears he has a nice little diverse background in music.

This is impressive... "As a kid, Vannucci claims to have banged every object in his parents' house, even the vacuum cleaner. At age 6, he became the youngest musician to perform in a Las Vegas band; he played drums for "Play That Funky Music White Boy" at a lounge in Caesars Palace."

I like his drumming back in Too Fast For Love, Shout At The Devil, Theatre Of Pain, Girls Girls Girls albums with Motley Crue. In fact, He is an hard skin beater, show-man, loud groover.

Yes, Tommy Lee has been a staple in drumming since the early 80's. I always went to Crue shows becuase I knew I was gonna get a bang for my buck. Tommy might not be the most technical drummer out there but he sure can lay down some heavy grooves that get the blood flowing. He is great! I have always been a little surprised that there aren't any sound clips or vids on his profile.

Those who never heard of the MR. BIG in the mid 90's were living under a rock. But, did you know that the drummer was Pat Torpey? I sure didn't. There is a nice solo on his profile based on the song "Let It Be".. its pretty neat.
 
I really enjoyed reading Pat Torpey and Armando Peraza, thanks. That Now & Zen album from Robert Plant, I listened to that long time ago, was very good.

Van Halen are still doing things their way. There are no rules and what's trendy doesn't apply. It's music straight from the heart. Always has been, always will be.

Alex will be the first to tell you he's not a rock star. He's a musician. He'll be making music until the day he dies, in one form or another.

Today: Phil Maturano.

When he was 16 he began his first serious study, with jazz drumming great - Roy Mc Curdy. Under Roy's "wing" he learned the language and art of jazz drumming. This set him on an irreversible course, towards his life long dream.

Phil now resides in New York city and continues to work in a wide variety of styles, doing everything from Afro-Cuban music, Big Band, R&B, Straight Ahead jazz, Rock, World music, even Punk Rock!

Note: Every time I write down a message to Phil, He always replies. A very nice person, kind, an gentleman.

Hello, mate.

I remember Mark Brzezicki, playing on The Cult - Love album, he did an very good job. The only song not played by Mark, on that album, was "She Sells Sanctuary", which was carried out by Nigel Preston on the drums.

His drum-work on ASTRO CREEP: 2000 - White Zombie, was quite good. Actually He plays for the band The Cult.

Horacio " El Negro" Hernandez.

An innovation man...

Few percussionist have done as much to further the marriage of jazz, rock and Cuban music as Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez.

U.S. rock music being outlawed at the time, Hernandez was detained at the age of thirteen for being caught playing Cream covers with friends from music school.

Note: there is so much, to learn about other drummers and their styles.

His legendary right foot (on his bass pedal) and lightning-fast triplets were his instant trademark. He later refined his style from the hard skin-bashing approach to a more delicate wrist controlled one - which produced an even more powerful & louder sound with less effort.

An story starting from the scratch:
The joys of playing guitar were already beginning to fade for Roger, and he found himself more and more drawn to percussion. He started off by bashing upturned saucepans with his mother's knitting needles, using the lids as cymbals. He actually found a snare drum one day while out playing with friends, and was given a hi-hat cymbal. For Christmas 1961, his father presented him with a bass drum and a tom-tom - he had picked up both for £12 and had mended and polished them. Although it was a mismatched kit, Roger was exceedingly proud of it. He went out after Christmas and bought himself a brand new Zildjian crash cymbal for eight shillings - his first proper cymbal - and eventually another tom-tom as well.
