I'm a total of 38 inches down this rabbit hole so far..
I kept planning to pick one up on my next trip to Japan, but then I imagined lugging a cymbal around with me on the train, to the shrine, down the stairs with no escalator and put it into a suitcase that gets crushed and some airport guy throws it into a cart and packs a ton on top... So Fedex it is. I was able to get a really good price from Ikebe Gakki. (They have a Reverb store, but it's cheaper to just use the form on their web.) Very well packed. 808 series 14" thin/medium hats and a 10" splash (I got that earlier).
Some of the cymbals, say the 609 series look very "Paiste like" in their production:
Premade blanks from a supplier are heated in order to press in the bell then quenched, they are then put under a manually controlled machine hammer, then hand lathed.
Some of the other series have a serious amount of hand hammering on the bottom side.
This is what I wanted to buy originally (Japanese version is called Fezr), but got cold feet worrying about the extra-short decay that's the feature of this line and I can't unhear it anymore. It's probably useful - sounds very clear -, but I was going for a more acoustic sound. Looks pretty, too.
