John Bonham - The 'Bonhadiddle'

Taken from Led Zeppelin's performance of "Moby Dick" at the Royal Albert Hall 1970. Bonham does a nice paradiddle style lick at around 2 minutes. Took a bit of time to work out what exactly he's doing. It's a really nice pattern when you get the hang of it.

Amazing that after all these years there are still parts of Bonham's playing style that remain to be discovered.

I've been trying to work this one out for years. I always thought he played the bass drum doubles in between each hi-hat chick though, rather than just at the end of the pattern...?

On close listen it seems not. Just a double at the end. Listening to the first part of the pattern the snare sounds like it's unaccompanied.

But I wouldn't put anything past Bonham.

Nice feel to that and sounds great coming out the more aggressive bit before.
