Hi all,

I'm after a new hat stand. Preferable features include:

- Responsive, quick 'stepped'

- Durable/withstanding

- Is capable of housing a double pedal

- A good, all-round hh stand

- Light! (not essential)

TIA!

Nearly any mid-range hi-hat stand will check all these blocks for you. The PDP 800 series, Yamaha 700 series, or the Ludwig Atlas Standard are all very good quality and have rotating legs standard.

PDP HH820---I have them on both of my kits---they are NOT wobbly, but they are not light either. A piece of gear you won't have to worry about, but bulky to transport since the foot board doesn't fold up.

Another vote for Yamaha 700. I've also had good luck with PDP as well if you want something light.

Were the two-legged stands developed because of double bass pedals?

Or was it just to have a smaller footprint?

Both, probably - right?

Mapex Armory. Feels like a pedal costing 3 x as much.

Two leg stands tend to be heavy and on the high end price category! Just get a Yamaha, Pearl ect. that has rotating base legs. This will allow for the left bass pedal to be postioned where you want it without breaking the bank.
