Gretsch shells

Something ive only just noticed, on the gretsch drums site the newer catalina maples instead of saying select maple (cheaper stuff) now say the same as renowns: gretsch formula maple shells.
Is there anything to this? Or is now the only difference between a renown and the cat the silver sealer?

So you're saying they're pretty similar? Lol

From its sleek, innovative hardware designs and legendary Gretsch-formula shell, Catalina Maple is a favorite among players that want a terrific sounding Gretsch drum set with ergonomically satisfying playing experience and a fresh, contemporary look.

The 7-ply Gretsch-formula maple shell has 30-degree bearing edges and natural shell interiors. Bass drums include telescopic bass drum spurs and matching maple wood bass drum hoops. Toms and snare drums feature 2.3mm triple flanged hoops. All drums are fitted with Remo® drum heads.

They are being very misleading in product description then, it makes it sound like the shells are the real deal.

Select:

adjective
3.
chosen in preference to another or others; selected.
Synonyms: preferred.
4.
choice; of special value or excellence.
5.
careful or fastidious in selecting; discriminating.
6.
carefully or fastidiously chosen; exclusive:

Without them exactly specifying the composition, it's all guess work.

They call the Catalinas - legendary formula, and the Renowns - classic formula.
It might be more cost effective to make them all at once from the same materials
They both say 30 degree bearing edges.

Not to add fuel to the fire....

I just saw what was presented as a brand new model Cat-Maple at GC. It 'really' looked like 45 degree edges. The Cat-Club was definitely 30 degree and looked almost exactly like the Renown edges.
