Cymbals getting bigger?

I use 18" and 20" crashes live, but 14" and 16" in the studio. The big cymbals are so slow they take forever to open up. Even with gates I cant get my bigger cymbals to speak properly in the studio.
I also use Sabians live and Zildjians in the studio, so that may be part of the difference as well. I love the sound of the bigger Sabians to the naked ear but the A customs seem made for the studio.

Wow! This carried on a lot longer than i thought it would! Haha! Also, I just wanna add in i cant stand the feeling of small cymbals. I like to feel like im really hitting something. Im using a Zildjian A Sweet Ride as a crash, but i don't limit it to a crash, if i want a more washy feel i will ride it as well. And I've just ordered my Zildjian A Rock Ride(21") Which will be taking most ride duties, but It'll be crashed every now and then as well. Hehe
