I way prefer ambassadors to diplomats on the snare side.
I tune my snare side about 1/3rd higher than my batter because it gives a bit more body/lower overtone and "meat" to the drum.
There seems to be a common misconception that diplomats resonate more than ambassadors, which is false.
With heads, more material = more resonance/sustain.
Thinner heads like diplomats will be more responsive on the snare side because it takes less energy to excite a thin material (thus the cross buzzing from toms with diplomats that people have described in earlier posts). They will not, however, have as much low-end response (which I like to hear from ambassadors).
