How to port a drum head?

What is the best way to port the bass drum head?

I have never done it before.

I looked at a bunch of different methods on the Tube, and settled on melting.

I searched for a can around the house that was 4". In my case it was a stainless steel cup I use for camping. I heated it up on the stove for a minute and with an oven mit carefully melted a port hole in just a split second. Worked like a charm.

+1 Moreover the melting of the mylar will protect the hole (mylar) to tear up.

Yes. That's how I've done it. Easy.

Use an oven mitt!
