Aluminum Die Cast Hoops

Probably just for aesthetics. I would be fine with smooth, polished aluminum with no chrome too. Chrome plating is pretty nasty for the environment, as well as the workers.

Same reason Yamaha or Ludwig chrome their aluminum snares.
It's the sizzle of a shiny finish.

I own a couple of sets of these rims are they do the job quite well.
 
It's pretty amazing how expensive those Yamaha aluminum die cast hoops are. They're twice as much as they used to be ten years ago.
 
The hoops on Premier drums made in the 70s had similar die cast aluminum hoops with a low profile. Those were seriously wonderful drums.

I was paying 30 bucks for regular zinc diecast 5 or 10 years ago,now they're at $60,
