An attempt at a policy change here

So, without caring what the community thinks of you, without regard for the value of your contributions, without regard for what you may destroy in a community, you came here simply to learn.

Taking without giving isn't being a good part of a community, in my opinion.

What you are saying is true...but I did not imply framing it in that way. What I mean is that if folks don't agree with my opinion and want to belittle me or take exception, it will not thwart me from stating an opinion.

Which is what I did...and I don't think I have been disrespectful or harmful in stating of said opinion. I'm not going to let my actions...which have not been egregious by the way...be dictated by what others might think....

I do have valuable input to give and I feel I have done so already...perhaps this opinion is not deemed valuable, but that is OK

I think my post about "rendering Tush" the song was pretty valuable...I gained insight and so did others...so I think I'm inline with what community is about.

That reminds me, my daughter's basketball team is selling candy bars. Can i put y'all down for one?

Fair enough. ...............

Listen, shemp, I think youre confused. Youre the one thats having emotional outbursts. Youve clearly blown up this thread as im sure you did the other one. Just chill and enjoy DRUMS.

not confused...I stated an opinion...I have been attacked and have stayed around to stand up for my opinion....that does not seem emotional or troll like....and i'm very calm as my posts would indicate.

I did not start this post...I'm merely standing up for what I believe to be true...there is no emotion in these posts I have written...

My goal was not to devalue or improve...it was to state an opinion. The rest took off on it's own and I did not see it coming nor did I want this to happen.

This is my last post on the matter. I can only tread water for so long. I will continue to state my opinions whether they are agreed with or not...in this case I pointed something out that was true.

That reminds me, my daughter's basketball team is selling candy bars. Can i put y'all down for one?

Which team? If it is a Rogers team I may be able to help you. Oops, should we be discussing this here?

I will never, ever understand why people feel a need to be so petty and spend their lives getting offended about stupid things. If you don't like a post content or the content of a user's posts... Just don't read them. Pitching a little hissy fit and then defending your "position" to the death is just stupid. There's no reason to be offended by or make offended-commentary on someone's posts.

And Andy, quit being a baby. So you got some un-deserved negative commentary because someone couldn't handle your company name/products being mentioned. So what? Clearly many of us here now feel we will be deprived of information that we previously liked to read. The way your reaction comes across to me is of someone taking their toys and going home because of a little tiff. I like reading about your products, innovations and ideas... And this comes from someone who will almost certainly never buy a guru product simply due to my finances and your location on a different continent.

The mods here see literally almost every thread. They will delete things if it's against the rules. If people really can't stop themselves from reacting emotionally to a post, then report it to the mods and live with whatever the disposition turns out to be. Whining in the thread just doesn't come out well, as we can all see.

Great, last post. I'm good with that. Now can we move on to the real business at hand? I am still looking for good reasons to NOT have a commercial sub forum. If there are no compelling reasons...Bernhard, I'm asking outright....can we get a commercial sub forum in the interest of improving this site?

I'll take one of those candy bars and BTW...I have some very large Mapex Badges for sale. Anyone interested? :)

No offense, but I don't think this really solves anything. The thing about Andy's posts is, they were not marketing. He was usually excited about some event or gig he played/wanted to share, and part of the excitement was the drums he built.

It seems to me like this sub forum idea would be a burden to him because he might wonder if he has to post something there if he mentions for example, what guru snare he was using on a video, or just wants to informally discuss his website as he's building it.

I don't think he's the type to come around and post up a bunch of brochure material in some kind of advertising sub-forum that most sane people would steer clear of.

What I've gathered from all of this is that Shemp has set himself up as protector to all the poor little forum users who are so simple-minded that might have been conned into spending money on a product simply because they were asked to look at a prototype website & give an opinion.
Good job there's someone looking out for all the simpletons. Shame on all you level-headed, sane adults who are cross at him.

Best post of the day!

Twenty points to you sir.

Why won't someone please think of the children?!

I'm going to jump in just one more time.

I think most of us here, but not all, disagree with Shemp's opinion. I disagree. He's OK with that. However...

We are also blaming him for Andy no longer posting Guru stuff. His opinion WAS the impetus, but it was not his decision, it was Andy's. As much as we'd like to, we really can't blame him for Andy's choice.

Do I wish Shemp had simply kept his opinion to himself? You bet your ass. Do I think he made a mountain out of a molehill over a technicality? Yup. Do I think he put being right before being good for the community? Uh huh.

But I do try to be fair and objective about things as much as possible, and what I keep coming back to is that it was Andy's decision.

Again, I hope that a sub-forum is instituted where we can again read about Guru (and other) drums and comment and make suggestions for websites and all that. I think it really is a wonderful benefit of being a part of this community. I hope, either way, that Andy changes his mind about posting Guru stuff.

No offense, but I don't think this really solves anything. .

I do think it will relieve certain pressures about what can and can't be said. If it's not against any rules to mention your products, then no one can make those sorts of accusations. I think it would go further towards solving this issue than the keeping of the status quo. I can't see it as being a detriment, quite the contrary. Why not give it a try? As was mentioned earlier, Evans Specialist, Kelly Brady, Francois from Unix, I think Longgun builds stuff, those people would technically not be allowed to mention anything of their creations here. That's nuts! I want them to mention away! Long live drum builders and inventors! Give them a place to be themselves, that's what I'm saying. Anything that could possibly be taken as commercial would have protection under that particular sub forum.

And just to be clear, Andy is not banned. Not at all. He just had his thread deleted and also changed his personal policy regarding the mentioning of Guru Drums in DrummerWorld.

Everybody gets one. Only one.

Then allow me to use mine for the first time in 4 odd years......

What a fucking circus!! I'm genuinely bloody staggered this is even an issue.

The reason the "no advertising" rule was created is as plain as the nose on your face. It was designed to stop the hit and run spammer......surely this is obvious to even the most feeble minded? Quite a bit of leeway is offered here. The ones who break the spirit of that are easily identifiable.....hint, they're not the ones who actively contribute to the wider forum as well. The fact that Bernhard allows regular contributing members to let us know their wares are available is a sure fire sign that it breaks no DW rules, no?

Andy isn't the only one able to offer a unique perspective from inside the business....and thank christ for it. Sometimes that inside knowledge can be far more beneficial.......whether it be one of the various drum makers, cymbalsmiths, retail store owners, company employees, teachers or professional endorsers that frequent this place.......that knowledge often goes above and beyond the limited scop offered by some kid in his bedroom with fifteen minutes experience.

And people wanna shut that down? FFS!

Don't like it? Fine.....start your own forum and create your own rules. But until then. let the site owner and mods determine who crosses boundaries and who doesn't
