A maze of odd metres...

Gavin is the best ;)

Check out his works with 05ric if you want a ton of odd time signatures, rythmic illusions and everything that Gavin does.

That's a cool track. Pretty mental. I could be wrong but I've put below what I reckon it is just in case anyone feels like a play along.

The opening groove is a bit crazy but I think it's in 4 with the polyrhythm and odd feel created by the triplets on the high hat. There could well be a dropped 16th in there somewhere but I cant pin it down.

You could say the whole thing is in 5/8 but i personally find it easier to count 10 in some sections and 5 in others. It fits the music better. The solo section is definitely in 7.

The whole thing is a bit of a head wreck in my opinion. A maze of odd metres indeed.

the verse groove is insane
its really flowing and it IS 7/8, though at first i thought it was a syncopated 6/8.
but you can see in gavin's transcription (in his site) that the groove is based on some shuffly 7/8 pattern:
x-xx-x-
x-xx-x-
