Summer Project (Drum Room)

Being a university student, I took advantage of my 4 month summer by finishing a 24' x 12.5' room in my basement. Nothing fancy or professional, just something to help me become a little more handy and to give me a peaceful area to play drums :).

In the end, it'll be my little hangout spot with a tv, couches, etc. Obviously I couldn't build a room and not think about my drums, so I decided I'd try to soundproof the room a little bit with soundproof insulation and thicker drywall (I'll probably add some sound treatment material afterwards).

To get an idea of what I did, there's a few pics of the sub-flooring, the framing, and the insulation. Next up is the vapour barrier and drywall!

Let me know what you guys think!

P.S. Anybody have any suggestions for improved soundproofing/sound treatment?

Looks nice man!!

are/have you added more chipboard infront your insulation? also look for some thick black curtainsand hand them from the ceiling to floor about an inch away from the wall so there is space, also if you have any left over insulation build some catcher type things just a frame to size put some thick sheeting on one side, put your insulation in and then more material to close and hang them around the room. you can also get some carpet and nail/staple gun it to the wall in a wave pattern cieling to floor.

Hope that helps and makes sense.

In my drum room (in the basement, too) we used 2 layers of 1/2" sheet rock for the ceiling. We also framed out the walls and then filled them with sand... may have been a little extreme haha. Doors/door jams can be a little difficult, too. We used an exterior door which sealed much tighter than an interior door. If those ideas are not options (may be too late) you could try incorporating MDF board into a more temporary sound proofing. I made a sound shield using 1/2" MDF for recording and it worked great. To my knowledge, it's about the most dense type of wood you can buy.
