After practicing groups of three or four and focusing on relaxing for awhile, I start to zone out and get into a sort of meditative calm. I used to also feel this way after playing polyrhythms for awhile. Anybody get into this kinda state of mind while practicing or playing?

I get lost in pretty much with anything complex. There’s so much brain power required for somethings, how would you not get sucked in? It’s part of what makes drumming so fun.

Yep, not so much the wife though if she's in the house while I'm on the pad :)

Hippies call it "flow". When we do repetitive things in a manner that favors smooth, relaxed, "zenlike" movement, it can induce a very nice meditative state and hugely aid in relaxing the body and mind. This lack of anxiety and overthought can actually result in exceptional performances.

Good thing I ain't a hippy. I just call it chilling and zoning out.

TBH it's not the best "practice" as you're not really paying full attention to your movement and all the mechanics.
