similar drum beat- 3 songs- intentional?

Listening to some stuff on Spotify and noticed the following by Weather Report, Genesis and JoJo Mayer (Nerve) I think have very similar beats and thought I would post it in case anyone has comments. I have always loved all 3 songs by the way.

Nubian Sundance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3qDGChRDDY

Wot Gorilla: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wootFX07sX0

Tribute: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHlApyXN2bw

I have to think the JoJo similarity to the Weather Report song is intentional (the name of the song is "Tribute"). Phil Collins was definitely into fusion (Brand X) so perhaps it is intentional?

Also, I read somewhere that the WR drummer liked the odd time signature of Nubian (http://www.drummagazine.com/features/post/the-drummers-of-weather-report/)- seems 4/4 to me though?

More than anything I couldn't help but notice the similarities between Wot Gorilla? and the first section of Rush's La Villa Strangiato.

Neil always said he was a huge fan of Phil Collins drumming.

I would say there probably was confusion between two songs in the article. Nubian Sundance is in 4, but Mysterious Traveller is in 7/4 (or alternates between 3/4 and 4/4).
I had never heard the two other songs, that's interesting!

That makes sense. Thought I was having some hearing problems for a sec.

OK- in case anyone cares:

I listened to interviews that come with a Genesis reissue of Wind & Wuthering and Phil says that Wot Gorilla was one of his favorites because it was his "fusion sort of Weather Reportery" stuff and that he was really happy that he got Tony Banks to play it with him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=_JeFNBjsXoI#t=617s

Also, at least one of the comments for the youtube vid of Tribute seems to indicate it was indeed a tribute to Nubian Sundance although I could not find definitive confirmation from JoJo.

Gotta love Google and Youtube- now I should really get back to work and stop pissing around.
