playing along with songs.

am i the only that puts on a song and listens to it then starts making my own beat to it?
or does anyone else do that to?
what are your thoughts on that?

I play along to songs quite a bit. More interesting than other practice methods, I find.
For the most part I play what the original drummer is doing, or close to it. Doing this has helped me learn some new fills or beats rather than the stuff I usually do.

yeah i try to play more to what the drummer is doing but i like it more to make up my own stuff only cause i dont know alot on drums haha

Hey Joe,

I think that's the standard we all do when we can't rehearse with our bands every night.

I think one of man's greatest creations is the MP3 player-- I download songs online from LimeWire (free, in case you haven't used it yet) and listen to them while I practice at home, GREAT asset.

Keep rockin'.

Cheers,
C. P.

I usually try playing close to whats on the cd, but my drum teacher told me this week to try playing a jazz patern over a song thats playing a shuffle.
cheers
