Buddy Rich's Best Interview

A great insight into Buddy. Thanks for posting.

SOME OBSERVATIONS: Bowie & Zeppelin clowns? Gotta disagree on the master there, but I can appreciate his honest opinion. Olivia Newton John can't sing? Again, a matter of taste.

Great part: "Is Buddy in here?" "Yeah, and I'm busy!" GREAT!!!

I think the interviewer was too quick to agree and his "rock doesn't know which way it's going" comment was naive. Rock was progressing and growing immensely at that time. Buddy seemed to have grasped that.

Buddy had a great mind. Very articulate and consumed by his appreciation of art. I enjoyed his take on South Africa's racism.

It's interesting to note how protective guys like Buddy and Stan Kenton were regarding jazz.

"I'll buy honesty, but I wont buy BS. No time." GREAT!

Buddy's point about jazz being respected in every country but its country of origin was right on. Matter of fact, I spoke to Gregg Potter (who drums for the BRBB now) about that very fact recently.

I really enjoyed it. Thanks!

Peace, MT
