home made ching ring for less than £15

my old one broke and was never that good because the pins (as is often the case with all commercially available hihat tambourines) were exposed and so got bent.

So i cut out the center bolt and plate and purchased two light plastic children's tambourines (4.5'' across - so ideal size) and merely glued them together with the center bolt between them. i filed a pair of grooves on one of the tambourines so that the tongues of the center bolt would sit snug.

and there you go - a ching ring which is better (IMO) than any other available and half the price. i might add a little rubber gasket over the top rim so that i can hit it as well.

The Rhythm Tech Hat Trick G2 is a wonderful ching ring and sells in the US for between $15-20. It also easily slips on and off of the hi hat stand
