Tama SuperStar Restoration

Wow, cool! I used to have a set of Superstars from '85 that I bought new. They were Cherry Wine finish. It had the deep toms, too. I ended up selling it for a maple kit, but I kept one of the bass drums from it (it was a double bass behemoth) for use with another kit. Here's where my little story dovetails with your thread.

I used that kick drum (24x16) as part of a frankenstein kit and one day decided I should get them all wrapped to match each other. Bad move. That kick drum went from great to awful overnight.

I guess since your going for an original restoration, you won't have that problem, but if you change your mind and decide on a wrap, make sure you at least get all the varnish off first. Even then, I think I'd rather play them ugly than to wrap them in anything, to be honest.

Have fun with that, and post pics of your progress!

SuperStars were (and still kinda are) the drums I always dreamed of having as a kid.

Great project, I'm looking forward to see them finished.
