Hey everyone

First post on here. Thought soon as im always so curious about whats what with drums, theres got to be a million forums out there, and there was :) :) :)

Erm, heres how it is. Ill never get why people like pingy drums so ma kit is all aquarian performance 2 heads with classic clear resonators, the bass has a superkick II and regulator. This ive found gives the deepest sound possible.

However, i have just had to give back a real deep snare i leant from someone and for now i am stuck with a very shallow one to replace it. When i get round to buying a new snare i need to know whats the best combination for the deepest sounding snare youll ever hear.

I know theres a lot better words i could probabably use than "deep" to help but thats all i can think of.

I got told for aquarian which id like to keep it as, that the hi energy heads are best for deep. But im more contemplating the depth of the snare.

What are your thoughts

Thanks a lot

Sam

PS: My budget is like just over 100 :0

Welcome to the DW forum. This IS the best one on the web. =)

Aquarians are great and I use them exclusively. You could say I "endorse" them but Roy isn't sending me any checks or setting up clinics for me. He just sends me heads. =) Regardless, I love Aquarians.

If you like the low, thick, less resonant heads, you'd like the Studio-X heads.

Clear....

These sound like Evans Hydraulics...but better IMO.

had a feeling it was for some reason.

And its great youve said those two heads in particular cuz ive had both of them.

Evans hydraulic was because i was dead keen on black heads to start with but they ended up too expensive :(

and the skin that was on the snare that i had to give back WAS a studio X, im stuck with a focus X at the moment but like i say when i get this new snare ill probs change back to studio X then.

The guy at the shop said Hi energy were the most HARSHly sounding snare heads, do you know how to describe that sound??

Any comments on the depth of the snare in particular, i just found this CTAZY deep cuztom snare that someones built thats 12" deep hehe.

Most likley be getting the drum of JALAPENO drums at the moment cuz theyll make it JUST the way you want it :)

Hm, I use these exact same heads on my kit and they sound nothing like hydraulics. They sound open and the "rings" around the edge of it don't really effect what I hear. They're okay heads, just not my taste, and buying them was sort of a bad decision.

I guess it's a matter of opinion. To me, they remind me A LOT of the hydraulic heads. Thick. Little sustain. Little projection. Thumpy. But I'm with you on the fact that it's not my cup of tea. =)

Some guys just don't like a lot of sustain. Had a customer not too long ago (true story) brought his drums in for a complete head replacement.

He had...hydraulic heads. Remo mufflers underneath. Studio Rings on top of the batter head....held on with moongel. He just didn't like "ringy drums". Yeah....he sure didn't.
