Hi Robert Schmidt
But if we just take a look on the tuning, are your drums always perfectly tuned? (Meaning that you have the same pitches on every lug.)
I start off aiming to get all the lug-pitches the same - but as you know - it's almost impossible because you don't just affect the pitch exclusively in front of that lug. We're not dealing with a perfect science here - it's a constantly moving target. I get them reasonably close. If the drum doesn't sound exactly what I'm hoping for - I might just tweak one lug up or down to see if improves. Sometimes it does and I just leave it there. Having maximum sustain (especially on floor toms) is not always what you want - and upsetting the equal pitch by de-tuning one lug might affect the sustain in a good way.
Hi kerrek
I'm specifically wondering if the musical scores for any of your arrangements on Cheating the Polygraph are - or ever will be - available. I'd pay good money for a couple of those scores, and I'm sure I'm not alone!
they could be available via my arranger Laurence Cottle - but we never intended to sell them and probably they would need a bit of work to make them look correct. There are no drum or bass charts - Laurence (who also played bass on all the pieces) just charted out everything for all the brass players. I wrote some sections for myself - but mostly played from the top of my head.
cheers
