I'm Looking to get a new kit. I have a choice between the Yamaha stage custom or a used mapex crossover with 10,12,14, and 16 Toms for $500. Which one would be the better kit. I play rock, funk, and gospel.

Another vote for the yammy.

The Mapex Mars brand new isn't much more than $500. Plus from what I hear the hardware is a bit cheap on the lower end Mapex.

If you're going down the Mapex road, get a Saturn you won't be disappointed.

Agree. Had Mapex in the NightWood. Good drums, but did not like the hardware. The drums were good, but Yamaha makes damn fine drums too.

I'm leaning towards the Yamahas as I see so many good reviews on them. What about the pearl decade? Are they on the same level?

I also had Pearl Decades..
Great drums a step or 2 above the Yamaha SC's IMO.. terrific sound, looks, hardware..the whole shebang.
