What's your latest purchase?

Picked up some odds & ends from an estate sale. Gretsch tympani mallets (!) (they're badly warped) :

Is this an original Ching Ring? What's with the red thing in the middle? And that hole in it isn't large enough to fit over a hi-hat rod so I don't know what the purpose of that is.

I've never had a wood bass drum beater before. Unbranded, far as I can tell.

More from the estate sale. Possible vintage Pearl drums, but no badge:

The rail mount was moved to the top of the bass drum to accommodate the 2nd tom holder and the mismatched 13" rack tom below. I think they're both MIJ stencil drums. The 14" floor tom had new leg brackets installed at some point.

This cymbal arm holder on the bass drum is my only indication that maybe this and the 12" rack tom are Pearl, but since the drums have been modded, maybe this was an add-on also?

These will get restoration threads posted separately.

4 of these are on the batter sides, 1 on a reso side of a tom. The other tom resos are unbranded, opaque grey.

More from the estate sale. Two A Zildjian 16" crashes; The have enough pitch separation that they could be played on a kit together without being redundant. One has some cracks/dents on the edge (right side, 12:00, 4:30, and 7:30) :

18" A Zildjian crash:

All 3 are fairly thin but I've no idea what the models are; logos long gone. They share the same stamp:

20" Pasha crash:

And, several 10" and 12" Kingston cymbals that appear to be of the cheap brass beginners' cymbal variety, and a couple of similar unbranded ones. Not worth showing, really, unless someone here requests it, then I'll edit the post.

More from the estate sale. Misc. hardware; an unbranded but fairly new (or at least, new enough to have not gotten rusted to death like the rest) cymbal stand:

Vintage throne. Looks uncomfortable. What's the wingnut for, on the bottom of the seat?

Vintage Premier hi-hat stand and pedal. I didn't know what brand the stand was until I saw the small Premier logo on the bass drum pedal, and realized that the foot plates are the same shape. The rubber top of the hi-hat pedal is gone. Surprisingly, they're both fully functional and operate very smoothly!

Unidentified old cymbal stand and WFL snare stand:

Not part of the estate sale: vintage CB-700 snare stand. This thing is a heavy beast!

I decided to get a M80 snare weight since I go from almost no dampening to a zero ring on my BB depending on the gig. The drum dots work good but I don't like their stickiness. This way I can use the same dampening and adjust it on the fly. I'm getting close to needing to change out the sleeves on Ahead sticks so now I have some on hand. They are lasting much longer than I expected. 20241005_092232.jpg

Yet another muffling option to try out. Can’t remember where I saw them but the price was right to pick a pack up. They’ll most likely end up in my drum stuff junk drawer with the rest of the muffling devices, stick grip enhancements and all the other drum accessories that I’ve tried over the years. Who knows, though… maybe they’ll be the next great thing! 🤪 🤡

*EDIT* - Well, the experiment was a total failure. Took me all of 5 seconds to realize that this solution is not for me. I’ll stick to my binder-clipped hand towels on my toms and my BFSD products and/or M80 on my snare drum if I need muffling. I’m sure these Jupiter Gels will work out great for other drummers but I’m not one of them.

After probably 15 years, my old one gave out at a really inopportune time - right before the last gig where it was 104 degrees. Even though cold weather will get here eventually, I still needed a new one. $9.87 clearance sale at Wally World. Aww yeah…

A new snare batter head. The coating peeled off my last one within 2 months, so ive got another identical one to see if it was a one off or if its a bad batch. If this one peels off with minimal use ill be getting onto the retailer and/or aquarian direct.

Wow! I hope it was just a fluke. Aquarian advertises that their coatings are very durable.

I just put a Texture Coated Aquarian on my 6.5x14 copper snare. It sounds great.

usually ive had zero problems, but that one head it just peeled off, i put an aquarian tone-tab on it for dampening, and it ripped off a chunk of coating when i removed it. so i suspct it was just a faulty head, first time for everything i guess :)

i love aquarians, been using them for over 20 years :)
