What's your latest purchase?

I started with a Slingerland Stage Band 4 piece kit as a 12 year old. As I aged into my later teens in high school I went out and bought a 9x13 to go with the 8x12. But it was the regular Slingerland line with the normal lugs instead of the single lugs my kit had so it didn’t match beyond the WMP wrap. I was able to buy a Premier 16” floor tom, also WMP from a friend for $20 as a freshman in college. So I started with 2 up 2 down fairly early on. Then about 7 or 8 years ago I found a matching Stage Band 9x13. And a couple years ago I found a 16x14 Stage Band floor tom but I need to get it wrapped.

I then bought a 7 piece Yamaha Stage Custom 3 up 2 down a few years ago to use as my “gigging kit”.

Now for my latest purchase. I decided I needed a third kit because I’ve been leaving my precious Slingerlands at our bass player’s house for weekly rehearsals. I felt I wanted to bring them home and keep them set up in my basement as my home kit. So I found a Gretsch Renegade 5 piece kit on FB Mktplce and paid $150 for it. The snare turned out to be a Gammon and in really bad shape but didn’t care because I already have 5 snares. But the rest of the drums are in like new condition. Came with a hi hat stand, cymbal stand, snare stand, practice pads to go on all drums as well as for 2 cymbals. And all in like new condition. I can see using those pads if I want to play at night without disturbing the neighbors (NYC suburbs). And it came with about 5 regular drum keys and a ratchet type fast drum key which I’be never had before. I set them up in my basement and played wound with tuning. I love how the bass drum sounds and the toms sound pretty good as well. A perfect kit for rehearsals and leaving at people’s houses so I don’t have to lug them around all the time. I’ll bring them to the next rehearsal and will bring my Slingerlands home where they belong.

And I plan on heading to Precision Drum in Pleasantville, NY to try and find a matching WMP wrap some time in the next couple weeks. Then I’ll be able to sell both the Slingerland 9x13 tom and the Premier 16x14 floor tom.

Far more info than was asked for. If you read my whole comment, I appreciate you.

Some fairly recent purchases, mostly mundane...

Tama pre-Iron Cobra double chain Power Glide pedal. Reattached spring and adjusted beater; works wonderfully. Currently at the rehearsal space.

Used Tama throne, headed for the rehearsal space to replace a generic thin-seat, post-bolt style throne. This one should be more comfy.

Pearl Export steel snare (2000s?) No restoration needed- just wiped fingerprints. Got it with a CB student bag and Pearl snare stand for a song. Probably gonna sell it.

Premier 1005 snare drum - their version of an Acro I suppose, but steel. This was a recently completed restoration job; before and after pics are here. Haven't decided yet if I'm keeping it.

Here is my Pearl Export 6.5x14 steel snare that I bought last year. I am not an expert on older Pearl snares. But my snare has two inward beads. Does anyone know what is the difference in age between these two models and why this difference in shell? Thanks.

Yours looks to be from the 1980s with those "diamond" lugs. I may be wrong about the age of mine; maybe it's from the 1990s because I think sometime in the 2000s, they went to matching poplar snare drums. A couple of years ago, I sold one that had lugs different than either of these two (longer, with shorter tension rods) and had different beads; that one was from the late 1980s or early 1990s. In any case, I think these companies outsource the shells of their lower end stuff and they just use what's in supply.

Roc-n-Soc Nitro drum throne. Used one that was part of the backline kit at the Raleigh Tin Roof and it was soooo comfortable I had to get my own. Also, had to buy something while waiting for my teenage daughter and her friends to be finished at the mall.

I got one of those fancy carbon fiber hihat stands, you guys.

After a few years of not really loving the floating action of the 9000 hihat, I've been on the lookout for a used 5000, since I have two already and play better with the direct pull. This 50th Anniversary stand came into 2112 used, and I stared at it for a couple weeks before I took it home yesterday. The 9000 will now go to 2112, and my left foot is already more comfortable.

Nice

Original 6" North Drum tom. One of the hand made fiberglass ones before they were injection molded in Italy. It's pretty beat up, so I'm filling holes and repairing damage. Will be fun to see how it turns out........
