That feeling of finally getting drums delivered, to find out the delivery guy missed bringing the bassdrum... Hopefully will be getting it tomorrow. 😬 Can't say I'm all that impressed with the norwegian postal service at the moment.

And just as important (I moved the drums to their real spot in the basement and the stereo got the best seat in the house. You need to appreciate music to make music right?

For the audiophiles around here who like gear the integrated amp is a lovely and very well designed NAD M3, the DAC is a Gustard X16. The speakers are Monitor Audio PL200 with two SVS SB2000 Pro subs. The M3 has a preamp section with hardware crossover to limit the PL200s so that they do not see anything lower than 40Hz while also sending the full signal to the subs which of course have their own crossover and built in DSP to handle everything below 80Hz.

Ahhh yes. Nice to see that there are still audiophiles out there in a world of soundbars and airpods.

Do you have an SACD of DVD Audio player? Some of my best audio memories were playing the SACD version of Kind of Blue and feeling what it was like being the studio. Man - I can't believe that format died.

No, I moved away from physical media ripping all of my CD collection to Flac or Apple Lossless files and typically I stream via Bluetooth from my phone using bit perfect using Onkyo HF Player Pro software on my Android phone (LG G8x). Bluetooth is now so good that it is indistinguishable in blind listening, level matched, multiple trial testing. People who think they can hear a difference have either: listened to older, poorly implemented Bluetooth devices, or they have done sighted listening tests which are absolutely meaningless and should be scoffed at with conviction.

I do sometimes use the extremely well implemented USB connection into my DAC, but it is so not worth it and 99% of the time I am extremely content to stream from my phone which stores my lossless digital files. I listen to very well mastered music and I believe that I have had a very critical ear for quality sound reproduction so the files I play are fine, my ears despite being a little over 50 are still pretty darn good and the gear I use is certainly capable of audible transparent reproduction.

I do agree that it is a shame that DVD Audio failed to catch on as it seemed like it was a great format. I never really had the opportunity to play with DVD-A as just as I was learning about it and the potential, it was failing commercially so never bothered exploring it. Too bad, I would certainly have tried it if there had been a point.

My latest purchase is a drum modification to my bass drum. I had my Gen-1 Gretsch Renown maple 20x22 cut down to a 14x22 and it THUMPS now. Incredible sound for my taste, and sized for my gigs and style. It took me a while to commit, but I'm so glad I did. Pardon the different lighting in the pics. The drum was awesome either way, really. I just traded a bit of boom for a bit of attack and pedal response. It's still incredibly warm and resonance is still there. Loving it!

Other than that I've been pretty quiet during COVID. I did purchase the matching Renown snare to this kit last summer, as well as a 70s Gretsch SSB Carpathian Elm 8x14 snare last year. They're amazing drums

Been looking for a while and finally found a great deal on a vintage 14x6 birch Tama Starclassic in true mint condition.
This thing has a surprisingly hefty shell, and the die cast rims are substantially heavier than traditional hoops. Ten lugs for maximum tuning range, and this early model features dual snare strainers.
Besides the aesthetics, cranked up tighter it has a bright and warm tone for jazz/funk, and can blast it loud with the best 14x7’s when tuned lower.
Might become my main squeeze.

I got three new cymbals, something different than what I’m used to. Have yet to be able to play them on the kit. I have the Foundry 15” hats that i enjoy, so I bought a crash and a crash/ride to match.

Got a new pair of the Shure SE846s, upgrading from 215s. Can’t wait to hear them for the first time with a live drum mix.

got an Emperor X for snare

Some drum tacs. I use the Meinl drum honey, and they’re fine. Just wanted to see what was different about these.

I also picked up a pair of Promark Rock Knockers. Which are their 5As but with no tip.

some Maple hoops for my bass drums whenever I get motivated to switch them out.

I also got a laptop stand for my practice area to free up some space.

After reading a thread about Sweetwater candy, i put my favorites in the order comments and this came with my order:

Found a sweet deal on this 18" Zildjian Oriental Trash China. Couldn't pass it up!

I'll either use it as a normal China, or perhaps as part of a stack. Should be here next week!

I found this Pearl Professional MLX 5pc including 1st gen Free Floater Snare made in Japan gloss black inside shells mid 80s.
It was 10 miles from my house on CL. 22x16,16x16,13x11,12x10 & 14x6.5 steel free floater snare. It also came with 2 sets of hardcases & a 5pc set of d drum triggers. I thought $500.00 was a decent deal. I sold the cases & triggers so I wound up with spending $250.00 in the end.

Speaking of cases, check out ransan's Rogers snare case. It's not much to look at, but it has metal corners everywhere, and even the lid/case mating surfaces are metal. They don't make 'em like that any more!

Got some Aquarian Focus-X coated batter heads for my toms! Extremely happy with them. They’re like a Powerstroke but drier and more controlled! My instructor has coated P3s on his toms, and after he came over and heard how I tuned mine, he loved them! Gonna get the power dot version now for one of my snares.
