What parts of drumming are you "done" or "over it?"

Lots of great responses! I wish I could be done with buying and selling gear, because it’s annoying to deal with about half of the people on Craigslist/OfferUp/FB Marketplace anymore.

I am also done with comparing myself to other drummers. That’s a good thing, for me. But, I’ll still look for the things that they do that I want to try out in my own playing.

Pay to Play
*i.e. Playing gigs for low/no fee

There is room for charity/community gigs but only if relevant to a band member

I'm done with trying to figure out how to read Modern Drummer online cause I can't find it at a store.

I gave up on MD years ago. Once Spags died, it just slowly fell apart. He WAS that magazine. I don't think MD will be here by this time next year.

Strangely, they have a meatball dish that they eat with peas that shares that name. I need to try that recipe sometime, but I'd have to not tell people what I made.
"What's for dinner?"
"F..... meatballs. Yup, meatballs and peas."
@mikyok post some bottles of HP sauce for me.....
Faggots and peas are a local thing here proper butchers ones are what you want. Bit like haggis taste wise.

Never got why tabs are called fags. Slang term for a joint here is jazz fag lol.

HP used to be made down the road from me in Birmingham. Always preferred Daddies sauce. Straight trade for a big bag of jolly ranchers. They're banned here for some ingredient in them. Bought loads back here in February!

How have we got to this point????

That settles it. I gotta get to Birmingham and walk the streets with my mouth shut just to hear this jargon in the pubs & parks. I prolly wouldn't even know how to order a beer pint.

You're a braver man than I! Just watch Ozzy interviews you'll get the jist of the Brummie accent. Far less likely to get mugged.

I'm Black Country so I'm in Slade & Robert Plant country. There's about 7 miles in it which I know for America is end of the street

When I hear Ozzy talk, I can't believe that I can understand what he's singing. He's chewing on marbles and everyone is nodding their heads in understanding.

When we are done bitching about what we are "done and over with" maybe it's time to have a pleasant meal and a pint then realize life isn't really that bad.
I can see myself doing hard prison time for smuggling Jolly Ranchers. I'm sure there is a country song in that.

Multi-rods. They're just way too expensive and break when you look at them. If I can't get away with a maple 7A for those quieter gigs then it's too quiet and you shouldn't have called me. Following drum trends that lead to everyone sounding the same. Giant dark cymbals, vintage kits currently, giant toms in the 80's, that kind of thing. Putting a ton of time and effort into a band just for lots of gigs. From now on if I'm not really enjoying the MUSIC being played I'm no longer down just for the scene.

I was done with live gigs several years ago once our fairly successful or successful enough to be booked most weeks of the season wedding band called it a day. I miss from counting off the first song until the last cymbal hit of the gig but I was tired of everything else. The wedding paycheck made up for all the annoyance while we were active however.

I was over rushing to mid week practices after work only to find mild urgency on the parts of others.

I think I may be done with buying drum gear honestly......I have a nice birch Tama Starclassic that was my main gig kit but now I play my walnut Hendrix and it records beautifully and I have acquired very nice cymbals and snares along the way. I do have a snare and cymbal fetish however so who knows......

Somewhere over the past 40+ years of playing I stopped trying to be anyone other than who I am. I know what I do well and what is best left for others. So long ago I was over and done with trying to be what people think is "hot" at the moment.

I am over being critical of other musicians and drummers, have been for decades but I think it bears repeating.....I'm just happy to see someone playing an instrument and not staring at their damn phone. If the music or playing doesn't blow my hair back......who cares, to each their own.

Over with being overly critical of YT or Insta drummers. Again to each their own.....at least they are playing.

Lp 2B version last forever put on your watch list and an offer of $4 will come in)
if you want to give another a shot

One more thing I'm over - carrying individual stands from the car to the stage. Meet my newest wheeled hardware carrying solution. It even stands on end with everything loaded (including throne seat), and everything is strapped in so it can't jangle around. It has its first test at the gig tomorrow - about a 1/8 mile roll from the parking lot to the riverside pavilion.
