I've been wanting to give a new Yamaha drum set a try.
I once played on old one which sounded great, outperforming its specs.

Keyboards, motor bikes, (bass) guitars, water scooters, whatever Yamaha makes seems well thought out and build, great quality.

None. I already got the set that can be utilized to cremate my corpse with and I'm no hoarder.

It would be some custom size kit as there is NOTHING I have seen on the market today that has sizes I'd buy.

Brands...?

I don't care. Brands don't excite me.
All I hear/see is Marketing dribble. I'm allergic to Marketing.

Gretsch USA customs 20x16 12x8 14x12 16x14 with their 14x6.5 black copper snare.
Torn between Satin Ice Blue Metallic and Silver Mist Gloss......

If I ever buy another kit which is highly unlikely as I have 2 great kits it's either a George Way Walnut or a Gretsch Broadkaster/USA Custom.

Noble & Cooley.

I wouldn't kick Tama Star, Ludwig Classic Maple or Gretsch USA out of bed either.......nothing against any of the high end kits from the usual suspects.

Then again, I don't plan on buying another one.....

Then again, I didn't plan on buying my Hendrix either and here we are so......

AQ2 Bop or Tama SSC in bop if anyone actually had one.

This is more of an curiosity post for me to see what forum members would be interested in buying . I will add a suggestion for me , but I truly have no need for any new kits as I am in purge mode now .

Ok so let’s set some parameters for your answers first folks .
1) It has to be different than what you own now
2) Something you could afford now
Cool ?
So what drum set (brand , model, sizes ) would you be in the market for now ?

My choice ? Hmmm …. I would probably go back to something I owned in the past . Something from Noble and Cooley . Probably a Horizon kit in white lacquer with rainbow glitter . I have a thing these days for white sparkle lacquer kits . Sizes would be 22 x 14 ; 10 x 7 ; 13 x 9 and 16 x 14 on legs . The David Garibaldi configuration . I really like the idea of the three inch spread between toms . Nice and easy to keep the tone separate and very versatile .
Most likely coated over clear Remo Ambassadors on the toms and coated Remo PS3 on the bass batter .

So what would be your choice ?
Since I have to be able to afford it, I'm afraid I must bow out lol. I need cymbals though!

I don’t have drum GAS anymore, and I’m darn sure not able to afford another kit after putting the sets I have together, so I’m not going to bother.

If I had to switch brands I'd try a Tama Star Walnut bop kit, probably with a matching snare. I'd equip it it a full set of their lightweight hardware and put some jazzier heads on them-- maybe the Evans Strata or the Remo Skyntones.

If I had to stray from my Gretsch kit, I’d immediately research lead times for a Ludwig Classic Maple 12,16,22 in birdseye maple finish with a 5.5 Copperphonic.

I'm currently on this kick where I want to have multiple drumkits by simply changing out the bass drum.
To that end, I'd most likely do Gretsch Catalina.
I'd start off with a Cat Club kit, then snag the bass drum from the Club Rock kit.
I'd also snag a 14x5 Gretsch Black Nickel Steel snare drum, to compliment the snare drum that already comes with the Catalina drum kit.

I might say a Sonor SQ1 or SQ2 (the last one if money was no concern) because it might take shorter time to deliver to where I live, being in Europe. But I have a soft spot for Tama, so a Starclassic Maple 6 piece is high up there. I'm more than happy with my Hybrid Oak though.

I'd order a big 'ol Gretcsh Broadkaster kit with double 24" bass drums to try to replicate this Kentucky Headhunters vibe.

I played a show with them last fall. I got REALLY up close and personal with that kit for a couple of minutes. If you wanted to actually replicate that kit, it would be MUCH cheaper to just buy those drums used. They are old Ludwig/Leedy non-matching kicks and two old Ludwig/Leedy field drums with the snares taken off with an old Supra 14" at the helm. They sounded great to my ears.

Somebody about an hour from me has a big set of SQ2's for sale. I'd love to go try them out to see what the big deal is about them.
