What are you listening to right now?

The first two Cars albums, The Cars and Candy-O. David Thompson isn't talked much about as far as drummers but he sure made this band groove! The production on these two albums were outstanding as well, with Roy Thomas Baker. There's quite a bit to study on these albums. Later, the Heartbeat City album would be produced by Mutt Lange. who's use of drum machines probably alienated David.

I love The Cars! The drummer was David Robinson, not Thompson. Anyhow, I read an interview with him a long time ago when they released their greatest hits album, and if memory serves, he didn't really even know how to play drums, but wanted to be in a band so he learned on the fly.

Think I might listen to some Cars now.

Well, I obviously have more to learn, like the drummer's last name. i was thinking of World War 2 and the Tommy Gun cam to mind!

Have you ever noticed that most well-known bands' lifespan is about 5-7 years? There are some exceptions but the big heyday lasts only about that long.

Its kind of sad, I've been involved in music (playing in bands, working in radio, club dj-ing) for so long that I rarely listen to anything just to listen any longer.

I listen to stuff that the guys wanna work up to play. I listen to whatever anyone else has on, at work, at the pool hall, etc. I usually have sports radio on when I'm in the car.

I have gotten to watching AXS TV some, and checking out some great live performances, which is cool.

The good thing is I don't have the stuck-up philosophy about music that I did when I was a young man. I can listen to most anything nowadays, tho I struggle with rap/hip-hop, or the heaviest speed or death metal...most anything else, I'm cool with.

After visiting some buddies down south in Manalapan, Florida, and listening to pretty much nothing but Phish all weekend, I couldn't wait to get back home and listen to my stuff. Right now Im listening to some Zappa and Vinnie Shut Up and Play.

Currently listening to the Smiths after forgetting about them for a couple decades. Never realized how solid the rhythm section was.

Batdorf and Rodney Can You See Him...got drum fix last night with Genesis Three Sides Live...THE CAGE....brutal!

Not sure if there is a more current version of this kind of thread but couldn't find one so I thought I'd bump it . If there is another current version, please let me know and I'll move my post to that thread.

I've been really digging this new TOP album. First one in years that I actually like and feel it's up there with some of their older great albums. I knew it was a good sign when I heard an updated version of The Oakland Stroke. East Bay! All The Way! I think the best tune is Look In My Eyes but some others are really growing on me. Have a listen.
