A new week is upon us once again! :) Today's wake 'n break is a boom bap backbeat with single handed 32nd notes being played on the hi-hats. Starting with the hi-hats, we have a steady slew of 32nd notes with openings on the "&" of 1 and on the "&" of 3. Next, our bass drum is falling on "1&" and on "3&" and last but not least, our snare drum has notes falling on 2, the "a" of 2, on "4e" and then on the "a" of 4. As always, I hope you dig it and here's to everyone's week starting off on the good foot!

Today's wake 'n break is a 6/8 groove that utilizes a cross stick, high tom, and snare drum (with dropped snares), with a flam actually being broken up between the high tom and cross stick. :) Taking the bass drum first, we have notes falling on 1, the "&" of 2, on 3, and on the "&" of 6. Next, our hi-hats are falling on 1, "2&", 3 with openings on 1 and 3. Moving along to the high tom, we have a note on 4. Next, our cross stick is falling on "4&5&6&" and last but not least, our snare is being struck on 5. As always, I hope you dig it and much love!

Happy Humpday! :) Today's wake 'n break is a two bar groove with a soft touch. Taking our feet first, the bass drum has notes falling on 1 and on the "&" of 4 in the first bar. Meanwhile, our hi-hats are keeping a note pulse throughout both bars. Looking at the ride cymbal next, we have notes falling on 1, 3, and on the "&" of 4. Next, our snare drum (with dropped snares) is falling on 2 in the first bar, and then on "2 trip" and on "4 trip let", with some of the notes played as flams. Moving along to the high tom, we have notes falling on the "let" of 2 and on the "let" of 3 in the second bar. Last but not least, our floor tom is falling on "3 trip" in the last bar. As always, I hope you dig it and hang in there because we're already halfway through the workweek!

Today's wake 'n break is a four bar waltz that utilizes brushes on the snare. Taking the feet first, we have our bass drum falling on 1 while our hi-hats are falling on 2. Next, we are stirring the soup on the snare drum with an accent on the "&" of 2. Last but not least, our bass drum is playing a quarter note triplet on 1, the "let" of 1, and on the "trip" of 2 in the fourth and final bar. As always, I hope you dig it and much love! Sorry, but no notation for today's groove because I have to be out of the door as soon as possible.

Thank goodness it's Friday! :) Today's wake 'n break is a two bar groove in 3/4, although the argument can also be made that it's a 6/8 groove. Taking the bass drum first, we have notes falling on "1e&a" and on "2e&a" in both bars. Next, our hi-hats are falling on 1 and 2 with an open note on the "&" of 3 in the first bar, and then on 1 and 2 in the second bar. Last but not least, our snare drum has ghost notes falling on "1e&", "2e&", as well as an accented note on 3 in both bars. As always, I hope you dig it and have a great weekend!

Today's wake 'n break has a bit of a Gadd "50 Ways" feel and teases a samba on the bass drum. Gadd's samba is usually right on or behind the beat, as opposed to the traditional on top of the beat feel. Taking the bass drum first, we have notes falling on 1 and the "a" of 1, 2 and the "a" of 2, and on 3 in both bars. Next, our ride bell is falling on 1, 2, and 3 in both bars. Moving along to the hi-hats, we have a quarter note pulse being chicked on "1, 2, 3, 4" with an open note on the "&" of 3 in both bars. Looking at the snare drum next, we have a short ruff pick up as well as accented notes on 4 in both bars. We also have ghost notes on the "e&" of 1 and on the "e&" of 2. Last but not least, our high tom is falling on the "e" of 4. As always, I hope you dig it and much love!

Happy Mother's Day! :) Today's wake 'n break is a cross stick backbeat utilizing two different tones on the rim of the snare drum. Taking the bass drum first, we have notes falling on 1, the "a" of 1, and on the "&" of 2. Next, our hi-hats are falling on 1, 2 and the "&a" of 2, the "&a" of 3, and on the "&a" of 4, with an open note on 2. Last but not least, we come to the two cross stick tones. Our higher pitched tone is falling on 2 and on "3e" while our deeper tone is falling on "4e". As always, I hope you dig it and much love!

Happy Humpday! :) Today's wake 'n break is a two bar halftime shuffle where we are riding the rim of the bass drum. Taking the actual bass drum first, we have a note on the 1 of the first bar, and then on the "let" of 1, on 2, the "let" of 3, and on 4 in the second bar. Next, the rim of the bass drum has notes falling on 1 and the "let" of 1, 2 and the "let" of 2, 3 and the "let" of 3, and on 4 and the "let" of 4 throughout both bars. Moving along to the snare drum, in the first bar we have an accented note on 3 as well as ghost notes on the "trip" of 1, the "trip" of 2, and on the "trip" of 4. In the second bar however, we have no accented notes and then ghost notes falling on the "trip" of each beat. Last but not least, our hi-hats are falling on 1 and 3 in both bars. (NOTE: I notated the groove with hi-hats on 1, 2, 3, 4 by mistake, but it's just another pattern you can play around with!) As always, I hope you dig it and much love!

Today's wake 'n break is comprised of abanico rolls on the snare (with wires dropped) and high tom, and it begins with an anticipated pick up on the "a" of 4. Looking at our feet first, our bass drum has the pickup on the "a" of 4 followed by a note on 3 and then on the "a" of 4. Meanwhile, our hi-hats are keeping a quarter note pulse on 1, 2, 3, and 4. Next, our ride cymbal also begins with a crashed pickup on the "a" of 4. Moving along to the snare drum, we have an abanico starting on the "&" of 1 and on the "&" of 4. Last but not least, we have another abanico on the high tom, which starts on the "&" of 3. As always, I hope you dig it and much love!

Today's wake 'n break is a baiao inspired groove (you can feel it in the bass drum pattern) in 6/4 and it's played using brushes. :) Taking the feet first, our bass drum is falling on 1 and the "a" of 1, 3 and the "a" of 3, and on 5 and the "a" of 5. Meanwhile, our hi-hats are being chicked on all of the upbeats or "&'s". Moving along to the snare drum, we have notes falling on "1e&a", the "&a" of 2, the "&a" of 3, "4e&a", the "&a" of 5, and on the "&a" of 6. Next, our high tom is falling on "2e" and on "5e". Last but not least, we are striking the hi-hat on "3e" and on "6e", with openings on the "e" of 3 and on the "e" of 6. As always, I hope you dig it and much love!

After my file corrupted not once but twice, today's wake 'n break is finally up. It's a slow and plodding quasi-linear groove broken up between the bass drum, hi-hats, and a cross stick on the snare. Taking the bass drum first, we have notes falling on 1, 2, 3, and on "4e&". Next, our hi-hats are being chicked on the "e" of each beat and struck on all of the "&'s". Last but not least, our cross stick is falling on all of the "a's". As always, I hope you dig it and have a great weekend!

Today's wake 'n break is a dance hall groove made up of paradiddles, which are broken up between the snare drum, hi-hats, and ride cymbal. A lot of times, Jamaican dance hall and Brazilian baiao can resemble each other when it comes to the bass drum rhythm, but I personally feel this groove in a dance hall vain. Taking the feet first, our bass drum is falling on 1 and the "a" of 1, and on 3 and the "a" of 3. Meanwhile, our hi-hats are being chicked on the "&" of 1 and on the "&" of 3. Moving along to the ride cymbal, we have notes falling on 1 and 3. Next, our snare drum is falling on the "e&a" of 1, the "e&a" of 2, the "e&a" of 3, and on the "e&a" of 4, with accents on the "&" of 2 and on the "&" of 4. Last but not least, our hi-hats are being struck on 2 and 4. As always, I hope you dig it and much love!
