On the other hand, one show that I did like as a teen was Keeping up Appearances, and watching it a couple years ago on PBS again, and on YT - that show is much greater than I remember.
I catch the subtle nuances I didn’t understand before.
Great cast and Good show lead by Swift and Routledge!
Hughes who played brother in law Onslow was voice for Paul McCartney in Yellow Submarine.
Daisy played by Judy Cornwell was a looker when she was young!

Yeah i thought it was pretty damn cool when it came out. Now the whole leather and sunglasses and green camera filters things just look hilarious

I don't think it stood up a month after it was made. Terrible, terrible, terrible the whole way through. Have you ever seen the clips without the canned laughter? Painful. And relies on repetition rather than wit right from the off.
For movies that haven't stood up you don't have to look much further than 'Animal House'. I watch it now, I still laugh like an absolute drain but there are some gags that make me cringe. If you've seen it, you know the ones. All worth it though for the one line:
'They confiscated everything. Even the stuff we didn't steal!'
I watched 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' again the other day for the 3,000th time and there are definitely bits in there I'm not terribly keen on but some of the absurdist politics ('We're an Anarcho-Syndicalist commune!') are still side-splitting. And as (politically) a big lefty, the lampooning of left-wing politics in 'Life of Brian' is absolutely spot-on. The in-fighting in left-wing political parties really is every bit as bad and ridiculous as the film portrays. Some Python really doesn't hold up but some is just as relevant now as it was then.

I think I like the fond memories I have of watching certain TV shows when we were kids, but not necessarily re-watching those old shows. I think, like anything, TV shows are entertaining for where you were, back then. As soon as you grow up, you grow past those old shows. There are a few movies I still like to watch and books I'll re-read all the time. But I'll never understand those streaming stations that play the old game shows and episodes of Mayberry RFD. But it's also weird how I don't mind going back and listening to old music. Like I can listen to JS Bach piano pieces all day, or classic Miles Davis, or Barney Kessel, etc.,.... Some music doesn't age well and I wonder what I was thinking when I was into that, but alot of it has stood the test of time and I can return to it and get something new out of it. Maybe humans aren't made for re-living visuals?

Yeah tv and movies past and present suck now , but porno has made huge advancements from when I was a young lad. So all entertainment hasn’t deteriorated. Hope was in Pandora’s box.

Hill Street Blues and L.A. Law. It was "Must see TV" in the 80's - for me painful to watch now.

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who absolutely loved Avatar. Its not a top 20 film for me, but it was one of the greatest theatrical experiences of my life, and that to me counts for a whole lot. And as far as "its Pocahontas in space!", well.....Avatar is clearly better than both Pocahontas and Dances with Wolves. So I'm fine with that.
(I mean, Star Wars is "Hidden Fortress" in space, but the reason why people don't complain about that is because it was an improvement....which is tough to say about a Kurosawa film)
I'm at the age (35) where a lot of things that hasn't aged well now were also not aged well when I was a teenager. Bad 80s Sitcoms were still bad in the early 2000's, just like they're bad now. The only changes from when I was younger were the things that were big when I was a kid/teenager that may have aged poorly. American Pie was *the* teen comedy of my formative years, and even though I haven't seen it since high school, I can think of quite a few scenes in there that wouldn't fly, barely 20 years later.

I guess i am in the minority in many ways:
I am not a movie guy in general. I have my "favorite 10", but that is it. I can't sit still long enough to watch movies.
Sort of the same for tv. I really only actively watched sports on tv, or game shows. Anything else was seen "by accident"
That being said, I feel like the old shows of my youth are better than anything made after the mid 2000's honestly. It interesting to see how much slower the pacing is, but nothing in the past 20 years has moved me like M*A*S*H* and All in the Family...my 2 most favorite shows from back then. I used to actively watch both shows at my grandparents house, and my grandpa would explain to me what the scenes were actually about - the seriousness of the subject matter.
I really don't feel like many shows since those two have been as organic and gripping. to this day, certain MASH episodes still make tear up;
Emergency is the one show though, that I idolized back in the day, and then watching it later, I was like "....ugh...what a let down". My first and second grade years, I thought I was Roy DeSoto. I signed all my school papers "Roy DeSoto". I had my Station 51 helmet I wore everywhere. I still have my metal Emergency lunchbox with matching thermos that I took to school every day till 5th grade. My mom still has the dinner plate that I made in 1st grade when that company would come to your school, and you would draw a picture and then they would put it on a plate. Mine was a typical "kid drawing" of squad 51, with Johnny and Roy, and a dead ,bleeding body on it. It still hangs in moms kitchen today

I have a hard time watching TV, MTV quit showing music videos and that was pretty much it. What I don't understand is why are all the talking heads so ugly? Can't they find a beautiful woman to run their shows.

My dad used to love this show! A couple of years ago, I think I saw one come on TV Land or maybe I saw it online. In either case, it was terrible. I didn't make it more than 10 minutes.

I'm still haunted by the episode where they got called out to help a guy who swallowed the removable pop top after he had put it inside his can of soda or beer or whatever. I bet the premise of the episode wouldn't even make sense to an audience now. (This was also a true life story on a later Rescue 911 episode hosted by William Shatner. But I digress.)
My older sister had a crush on Johnny Gage and she wrote "51" all over the place. I would have killed for an Emergency lunchbox. I may do so even today if it's in good condition and still has the thermos...

I have never seen one in all of the campy/kitschy retro shops I have ever been in. I have seen many others from that era - Six Million Dollar Man; Starsky and Hutch - but not Emergency.
wierd to think that CHIPS was a spin off of Emergency too
