Triggering both a rimshot and cross stick sound on a snare?

I have an Alesis Strike Pro SE set. I am wondering of anyone has come up with a way to trigger a rim shot when playing a back beat and a cross stick sound when laying the stick across the snare - the same way an acoustic snare would be played.
My thinking is the when you play a backbeat, the stick would be hitting the part of the rim closest to you. When playing a cross stick the stick would be hitting the rim farthest from you. So maybe there is a way to mod the rim to play two different sounds in the different areas?
Or maybe someone has come up with another way?
Thanks

This is how Yamaha 3-zone pads work - the rim is split into different areas, with different sounds applied to each, so you play it like an acoustic snare.

With other manufacturers (and depending on the module), rimshot + cross stick is hacked by either the strength of the hit, or if your hand is on the head., etc. Check your manual for how it's implemented - if at all - on your module.

Have a nose here as well https://www.alesisdrummer.com/

You can edit the sound and make different velocity layers trigger different samples. E.g. loud hits for rimshot.
