Transporting the drum throne (throne bag? something better?)

Just wondering how everyone else transports their throne for gigs. I use a pork pie throne bag, it seems like its the only manufacurer that makes a bag for the thone and stand. It has two zippers and one broke recently so it got me thinking of do i replace it when the other breaks ( they are expensive) or is it a waste of time having a seperate bag? I dont want my throne top to get damaged so i dont throw it in my hardware bag.

I put the throne stand in my hardware bag and the seat in a backpack. Also in the backpack are the small bases of my vocal mic and the stand I use for my iPad. These bases shift around in my hardware bag so I put them in the backpack with the throne seat.

My throne stand goes into my hardware bag. The throne seat goes in it's own bag along with my bass drum pedal. I go to Goodwill to find bags and cases for my drums.

.

I use a Roc-n-Soc round with a seat back. Typically I take the seat and folded base as 2 pieces, seems easy enough.

The seat of my Motion-Pro is too big for either my hardware bag OR case, so it's usually riding shotgun in the passenger seat
My Yamaha 840 has a smaller seat and base, so it fits in both, but I place it in there seat side facing up so that no metal comes in contact

I use a roc n soc. I take the seat off the legs, and they both fit in my hardware bag. Matter of fact, everything other than my shells and cymbals fits in my hardware bag, including my rug.

My seat goes in an old tom bag (prob 9x13) and the kick pedal goes in as well. It's a little floppy, but beats trying to handle them separately. The base goes in my hardware bag.

I gig with a Gibraltar 96082T tractor-seat throne. I put the tripod with the rest of my stands in the large tote bag I refer to as "The Coffin", and the seat top itself goes in an old army helmet bag. It's lightly padded and also has handy pockets which I often use for hand towels, phone holders and set lists. Helmet bags can be had new for $30-40 or used for $15-20 at a surplus store.

Throne top in baggy 12" tom bag and stem with hardware

These days canister throne so throne becomes hardware case

Rides outside on top (under the straps) of secondary hardware (duffle) bag
fold legs up but leave top on.

Until I get a Gibraltar 9708 AST Skinny..

I've been (for gigs) milking a 70s Atlas Ludwig (like Charlie's!) lightweight throne..

As much as I advocate that the throne should literally be the strongest part of the kit (and I do own a nice DW heavy duty spindle throne), I have found since doing these tribute band gigs where I play for less than an hour, I can get away with a light throne. Currently I’m using a PDP base that uses the old tradition “thru-bolt” height adjustment, mated with a Yamaha top I took off of their lightest throne. I like the idea of the thru bolt to lock the height in place because I know it won’t slip, and it’s the lightest frame. The Yamaha seat top is 12” and thinly padded yet strong. The whole thing weighs about 6 pounds.

My heavy DW throne stays home.

My Porkpie throne tripod just goes in a hardware bag with all the other hardware. And my seat sometimes goes into a Pearl zip up snarebag, one of those square soft cases, other times it rides on top of a snare in a 12 X15 fiber hard case.

My DW 9120 with no back rest comes apart and it all goes in my Ahead rolling drum bag.

Back when I was using a Pork Pie with a backrest, I would put the spindle in the hardware bag, and then I would take off the back rest and nest the throne bottom and backrest in a 14x12 tom hard case.

I have a Roc-N-Soc saddle-style throne with their nitro gas base and I bought the Roc-N-Soc throne bag they offer. It has some padding to it and a handy front pocket for storing extra sundries. It can certainly fit other brands' thrones and bases aside from perhaps those very large DW tractor-style or ultra-thick-plush Pork Pie thrones.

I use an Ahead/Ogio hardware case and a round/spindle Roc-N-Soc. The base goes in the bottom of the bag with the rest of the stands, which get strapped in, and the top goes face-up on top nestled in such a way that it won't move around in transport, and if it were to move around then it would only affect the bottom of the seat. Then the case gets zippered closed, then strapped down tight on the outside. Never had an issue.

My normal 5000 single pedal also goes on top of the stands in its own little bag. Also still basically mint condition after a hundred-plus gigs this way.

I put the base with the rest of my hardware. For the seat, I use a shallow floor tom case (like an 11" x 14") and I put the snare and the throne top in that case, with a piece of foam between them. You have to carry a snare anyway, so why not combine the two and that way it's protected and easy to handle.

My Pork Pies and Roc-n-Soc Huggers don't need to be disassembled to fit in the Ahead Ogio hardware bag. I put them in the bottom so the bag stands on its own. Been doing this for years and it hasn't damaged them (I do use a cloth separator between the throne top and any stands it touches). Whenever I've had to use a smaller hardware bag/case, I put the throne top in a snare bag.
