“Weed and Mushrooms take my mind
Don't let her mem'ry torture me
Weed and Mushrooms , don't run dry
You're all I've got, take care of me
Weed and Mushrooms take my mind” in my best Willie voice. It did too.
Keith Moon tried to Free Willie.
interesting how Willie becomes the nexus. Of course it would be explosive

Sept. 18th 1970

Jimi Hendrix dies
😢 It’s really impossible to quantify the loss of such a creative force who passed during the prime of life and a career that was on a phenomenal trajectory towards the apex of the entire industry.

September 19th 1985 (!):

Frank Zappa and some colleagues hold a free speech in front of congress because some politicians buttoned-down wives exploited their husbands to combat "objectionable" lyrics in modern music, also known as the “PMRC Senate hearing”, the “Tipper Gore-Frank Zappa hearing” or the “rock-porn hearing”. It was a huge event, the hall was bursting from reporters.

In the end the people with sticks up their asses won, the first amendment lost and the sticker “Parental Advisory: Explicit Lyrics” was born.

The "Parental Advisory" sticker on your album became a badge of honour for artists and actually drove up sales. Tell young people they can't have something and they'll want it even more.

The best was Dee Snider vs Tipper Gore, "Mrs. Gore went looking for sadomasochism and bondage and she found it, someone looking for surgical references would of found it as well."

@Supergrobi thank you for posting this. I was just graduated from high school when this happened, didn’t pay it nearly enough attention.
In honour of the three men courageous enough to stand up to tyranny at the time:
