All I kept saying was "yeah man they sound great. "
Then he would get defensive," saying why do I need something else ?"
and I would say " yeah man they sound great"
Then he asked me what I played, and I told him. And he would say " I don't know man, my Yamaha stage custom sound great I don't know why I need another kit "
15 minutes of this nonsense. Absolutely ridiculous.

I kinda get where your friend was coming from...buying a set to me feels very final and the internal arguments really bounced around my head...the importance to me was greater than the actual situation...by a lot!...I would have spent no less effort selecting the sound of my actual voice than I did selecting what I purchased and suffered no less second guessing.
Buying equipment isn't run of the mill for many. For me it was defining a large part of myself and closing off some possibilities however minor they were.
