The drumkit that yielded the most for their owners?

Inspired by member SOVB's thread about the five most expensive drumkits to buy, I was wondering which single kit was resposible for their player/owner's highest earnings...
  • Ringo's Black oyster Ludwig kit that he used with the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show that help skyrocket their career?
  • Nick Mason's black Ludwig kit (he still owns and uses in the studio) used on The Dark Side of the Moon album that after fifty years since release is still on the Billboard top 200 charts?
  • Charlie Watts' round badge Gretsch drumkit he used with the Rolling Stones for decades to play for an inumerable amounts of people?

Birdland Cadillac Green Gretsch kit

The kits either side of the Ed Sullivan kit made all the hits and the money. The 1963 pre-serial downbeat did all the Beatlemania hits/albums and had the snare that he used for everything With The Beatles - Abbey Road and the 1964 Superclassic he used on everything from 1964 - 68.

The 1963 pre-serial downbeat is the most expensive drumkit ever sold. Found this cool website for Ringo's kits.

In our own lifetimes, Grohl did pretty good with the small upfront investment in his Nirvana kit — reported to be:
Tama Granstar, Silky Yellow finish + Superstar Snare, Natural finish (photo courtesy of the NLG) 8" × 14" Birch Snare 14" × 15" Rack Tom 16" × 18" Floor Tom 16" × 24" Bass Drum This was Dave's kit '90–'91; it was demolished at the Cabaret Metro, Chicago, 10/12/91.

It’s a constant source of amusement to me that Ringo is the ultimate Ludwig icon, but actually recorded their first album with his Premier kit, whilst Keith Moon is probably the most famous Premier user, but actually recorded The Who’s first album (mostly)’with his Ludwig Super Classic kit.

🙂

You know it's a serious Beatles tribute band if they stop the set to switch out the Luds for a Premier whenever they play P.S. I Love You.

Never thought about that. Maybe it’s because the Beatles’ first album came out on such a tiny label in the States and didn’t sell very well till She Loves You came out on yet another small label.

Tony Williams set Had a color named after him

top that 😄
