The Drum Modification Thread

I like the blue with the logo 1,000x more than the green. I'm not surprised the paint came off, I neverhad success with painting metal shells even with a light pre-sanding and a primer. It's a possibility that the two different color paints are different styles of paint. Acrylic and enamel paints don't mix. I'm no expert, I've just painted a lot of crappy drums and I recently rekindled a side hobby of Gundam model building so I've been doing a lot of reading about acrylic vs enamel paint and how they react to each other as well as on different materials.

The blue is really really nice.
I like the blue as well - it appears lighter and brighter on the pictures than in reality.
The color is sapphire blue.
But I had to let the idea of the hammer effect go as it wasn't available in this color.
I'm no paint expert either but I know some paints are based on water and others on turpentine.
I think you can paint with turpentine over water based paint but not vice verse.

It looks great to me now, better than the chrome shell.
A lot of people like the looks of that (the Supra comes to mind) but it is not my favorite finish.

It kinda reminds me of the Yamaha Dave Garibaldi signature snare:

Yeah, it does look similar - but without a doubt the hardware will be better.
On my cheap project snare I had to replace a screw of the butt end as it broke during disassembly.

For this cheap snare I used my vinyl cutter to create a simple badge (decal).
I also have a little CNC router and some metal sheets.
For my next project I want to try to cut out a similar badge like the Garibaldi.
