Sonor Snare Porn

Thanks!
That are all PAISTE Signature Line series cymbals.
Fast Crashes 16, 17, 18, 19, 20“
Splashes 10“ & 12“
Thin Chinas in 16“ & 20“
Powerslave Reflector Ride in 22“ (Killer!)

Nice, not too far off my setup:

Powerslave
20" Thin China
18" & 20" Fast Medium
16" & 19" Heavy Reflector
17" Dark Energy (the better Fast Crashes imho)

Thank you!
Well, your set is not so small after all

I am a lefty and I play open handed. So I placed my Octobans and the Ride on my left.

And yes, you are right! I love my Powerslave Ride! What a bell sound. The China is „only“ 20“.

I learned to play the drums while listening to Maiden, Van Halen, Accept, Dio, Helloween, Whitesnake, Rainbow, Kiss, Chastain etc. back then.
But also a lot of other genre drummers like Simon Phillips inspired me very much!
Very nice! I finally picked up the Powerslave ride a few weeks ago and I love it! I've also got a 22" Dimensions Power Bell Ride which I love too.

Cool!
I am looking for the 24“ Reverend Al‘s Paiste 2002 Ride. Very hard to find in Germany.

Yeah! Thats the reason I was hunting for about 20 years to own that Maiden feeling!
For me its my all time favorite finish
By the way, I like your avatar very much (y)
UP THE IRONS!

Holy guacamole Batman!

That kit is over the top cool. That definitely hits all the Iron Maiden marks in my book. This has to be one of the coolest Sonor kits I've ever seen. And sure it helps that Nico rocked the same look back in the day. Those tom holders look interesting. I've primarily played Tama because I fell in love with their '90s hardware. But that tom mount and holder look pretty sweet. Any chance we could see that holder a bit closer? Thanks for posting man.

Thanks for the kind words!
Here are some pics of the tom holder. Its a simple system, which can hold a 16x16“ tom easily.
They have fine or coarse (first production) teeth (2nd pic). And they have memory locks, which helps a lot during the set up.
But these are no free suspended mounting systems.
In my early years I had some experiments with the RIMS system. But this make no sense with that heavy beech shells in square sizes!
With such heavy drums, the sustain is negligible in my opinion.

How do you find the built in muffling on the BG 2 snare?

Is that the 14x6.5 SQ1 snare? Thinking about which of these snares I should get to go with my SQ1 (when all the issues have been sorted out by Sonor).
I think the first Benny Greb snare was awesome. The new one is cool too, but I find the mufflers to be mostly unnecessary. The snare is already dry to begin with. Why add TWO new mufflers? Seems like overkill.

But hey, the snare sounds amazing, so that's really all that matters. I don't think I'd ever use the mufflers, but if it did, it would never be both at once.

I personally love the mufflers. Especially the sheep.

To me it’s not Really the quantity of the mufflers that makes it unique, it’s the difference in the material used. I think the sheep muffle sounds the best to my ears. I just like that I can get 4 different sounds from this snare with out touching a tuning key.

The material portion of each muffler is Velcro and Sonor plans on adding more muffling material options besides the sheep & the felt

I think the BG 2.0 is the best wood snare money can buy personally. I love the tear drop lugs, the snare throw is a huge huge improvement and the bubinga inlay is a nice visual touch.

They have a Benny greb snare in sale at my store, I might buy it, I really like what is doing... And congrats for the snare, I'm a bit like that with keys, my oldest one dates from 1986, D50 Roland and Tx892 Yamaha... Well, maybe the Oberheim Mateix are older?

sonor is my all time fav! ever since when I was 18 and working with Jamie Bridges of room with a view studio's in Petaluma ca. {best god damn audio engineer ever} he took me over to Steve Smith's house (yes the Steve Smith of Journey & Vital Information) and I got to see his home set and shoot the breeze with him about drumming. yes, he is sponsored by Sonor, but he said they really are is favorite sound and quality. soon after that I traded in my Ludwig rocker for a Sonor S class! and never looked back... until someone stole that set and sold it behind my back. now I need another set!

Those are some pretty stout tom mounts indeed. Thanks for the pics. They look great.
