Some Transcriptions

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh3z__10bhg

Would it be blasphemy for me to ask you for a transcription of the polyrhythmic groove that starts around 6:36? I've always loved it but all 4 limbs seem to be doing something completely different and I can't get it without a visualization. Whether you try it or not I thank you so much for all of the awesome transcriptions that you have given us. There is literally enough cool stuff on this thread to keep me occupied for years!

This is what I hear. Basically it's three swiss army triplets with flat flams, and a swiss (RRL).

I'm asking myself who the bigger freak is: Danney for playing this stuff, or Zsolt for actually understanding it and writing it out...

This is a really really weird drumpart.

Great you were able to pull it off and thanks for sharing it.

Well, it wasn't that difficult. Transcribing that DiCenso solo.... that could be reeeeally difficult! ;-)

Thanks Zsolt! You are amazing and I can't believe you would actually care enough to help us out. I can't thank you enough.

EDIT:
After looking at that Steve Smith transcription, I have realized that I cannot read and play the ratio things like 8:3 or 7:3. Is there anywhere on this site or the rest of the internet that explains this concept and could maybe provide a way to practice it? I understand the general idea, but I cannot sight-read or implement the concept cleanly and would appreciate any help.

Zsolt man.... thank you for the Steve Smith solo! I was once asked to transcribe it, but Steve Smith just ain't my cup of tea (at least this solo isn't), so I never got past the first 20 seconds. I always thought that the way Max played that solo was just way better.

Now, listening to it again with your notation made me realize how good Steve actually plays all that stuff, so thanks for giving me more appreciation for Steves playing. He certainly is a monster behind the drums. His technique is so good, it's almost too flawless.

I'll check out this solo for sure when I have the time. Right now, I work on a lot of DiCenso, Colaiuta and Cobham stuff, that I have written out.

Could you provide PDFs for printing? How long did the Steve Smith solo take you?

Honestly, I can't remember how long did this transcription take me. Sometimes I feel the drive for transcribing, sometimes I don't. If I don't have the patience for transcribing, I can't force it.

How do you transcribe from a video on youtube? I've seen people slow it down, but I don't know what programme to use to do that.

I use Mozilla Download Helper to download, and VLC player to slow down the videos.

I have been looking for a transcription, Steve Gadd in the evening. Anyone out there have a copy. Thanks Yesdog
